A few years ago I bought an M82 off a friend who had it in storage since the 80s in his garage. When I plugged it in, it all came up on my screen, but after about 30 seconds, the screen went black, I looked at the M82 and smoke was pouring out of the vents on top! I quickly yanked out the plug, but didn't have the time back then to investigate further, so just returned it to my friend. I bumped into him recently and he offered to sell it to me again, but he hasn't touched it since I returned it. Does anybody know what might have happened, and do you think it is possible to repair? I didn't get to see inside after the smoke, sorry if this is a bit vague, but thought it was worth asking.
Hopefully something went wrong with the power supply. Usually an easy fix by comparison to the rest of the system.
Well without opening it, it is very hard to tell you what might be wrong with it. However I would assume that the large power supply on the board has died, if stored in a hot / cold envioronment then the caps would have dried out and not functioned and maybe have taken out a few components on the board.
Oh don't, I had to remove a dead and fried mouse from an arcade machine as it crawled across the power lines and fried itself, it probably did not help that mice piss themselves constantly so increased the electric going through it. It was horrible, had to wear gloves and latex gloves and a face mask and then scrub the machine with disinfectant... fun...
:-0 haha i guess it's possible! I had to open every window in the house when that happened it smelt so bad. I will try and get my friend to open it and take pics, but if I remember correctly the security screws were corroded so probably need a dremel taking to them or something. Otherwise I'll try to get it off him and open it up myself.
lol i love the rat thing but.. i think gamersgraveyard has a complete manual of the m82 ,just google there.hope this helps.
