    Hi,

i want to use a external USB drive for installation of Native Instruments (90gig) on it. The problem is my SSD has 120Gig. So first i think, np i use a external HDD for the installation. But the setup cant install on my external HDD drive, only on the native MAC HDD.:DOH::DOH:
I try the same on Win7, and it works. :dammit:
Any chance to get on mac an external usb HDD working as native HDD?
The external HDD is formated with mac.
I dont like to use win7 for NI... because my midi devices and...

Maybe i can mount the drive as HDD?

Ok wait, your saying that the Installer for Native Instruments won't let you install the software on a drive other than the primary drive with the OS on it?

If thats so, you should google for a Mac app called Pacifist. It will let you get around rules such as those and install software where you want to.

Let me know if that works or not. If not I have a couple more ideas.

If you can get a hold of a Mac which uses Sata rather than your SSD. Remove the USB drive from the caddy and stick it into a Mac. Install OSX onto it along with whatever software you want. Don't set an administrator password on set up.

Then put the drive back into the USB caddy, connect to your mac and boot up either into your regular drive and access the new OSX drive and run your programs from there.

Or hold Alt on start up and boot from the USB drive which Mac OSX supports.

Win7 works fine with my Midi Devices, what version of Win7 do you have anyway?

And if you are using a DAW program, you should have no trouble using your Midi device as a Midi Input, and then on a track turn monitoring on with your VSTi in the FX bus and arm recording on that track and you'll be able to play your Sampler/Synth live as if you were running the synth/sampler standalone.
Not much point in running standalone anyway IMO unless you are playing a live gig.

My guess is that it won't let you install on an external drive for performance reasons. I've seen lots of audio apps with similar behavior. Twimfy has the right suggestion but it still might fail once it realizes it's on a USB or FireWire drive.
