Wasn't a big fan of either, but Madcatz is the absolute bottom of the barrel, just above Gamestop branded controllers, and Naki, which make up the dirt below the barrel.
I bought a Mad Catz universal AV cable after forgetting an AV cable for my Super NES during the Hurricane Rita evacuation. The less said about that the better (the cable, not the hurricane evacuation, we got off easy because it just barely missed my hometown, felt pretty bad for the towns that did get hit though because they weren't ready for it like we were).
MadCatz products aren't too bad - in fact I found that Saitek products over the years have been far from the best of the bunch (though they did buy up some interesting PC concepts off other companies - Gamer Keyboard?)
Son of a fucking bitch! All my PC stuff is Saitek, I love there keyboards and they actually made a mouse that fits my hand....stuff wasn't super expesnive either. Fuck.
I have had quite a few good MadCatZ pads over the years, still going strong now. In fact I have a "MicroCon" GameCube pad that was my first choice when I was playing on it.
I quit buying 3rd party garbage after I broke 2 dreamcasts using some controllers that were a few dollars cheaper than the official ones. I later discovered that they blew the controller port transistors.
Gamespot accessories are made by MadCatz..... I bought a PS2 wireless controller by them once. Right stick got stuck when you placed it left. Got a Gamespot component cable. Works like a charm and looks great. Says MadCatz on it.
I thought i saw an interact copyright and info on the bottom of a madcatz product once...or the other way around....
I agree that MadCatz sucks, but 1st party stuff isn't always great either. I've gone through like 6 PS2 controllers because they keep spontaneously failing. One of my current Dual Shock 2's has a sticky X button for no apparent reason.
A friend of mine is on his 4th PS2. It's whatevs though. Now that I think about it, my first-party PS1 Dual-Shock starting glitching up within weeks of getting it, too...
I haven't had much third party crap, but my gamecube came with a Hip Gear controller once that made me laugh because the analog stick seriously had no diagonal movement.
Everything MadCatz product I have ever owned is broken in some way, only one cosmetically, the rest mechanically.
We have one MadCatz GC controller in our room and whoever loses in Smash has to use it. "Hahahaa, you get the stupid controller!"
I had a really comfortable PS1 controller made by Madcats I think. Got it because it was cheaper, and comfortable. Lasted about 1.5 years, and I was using it a LOT. This was around 5 years ago though. And a few months. Got it because my Sony controller messed up during the middle of Arc the Lad 2.
