For those of you who care (Probably not many) Maison Ikkoku has been made in to a Japanese drama. Shown of Saturday night at 9pm it sort of follows the manga and anime story wise and even setting wise however there is one big problem that ALL Japanese dramas face, it's SHIT  The main problem as always is the piss poor acting ! I mean if voice actors can sound realistic then why the hell can't normal actors? Cast isn't very good to be honest with the only one really suiting the roll being Yotsuya (The perv in the room next to Godia's room.) Also many of the areas just look like they are shot in a studio. The recent remake of Monkey had the same fate as well as all the other problems listed above.

Why can't the Japanese change their God awful style for once? I mean, here they had a fantastic story with an animation to copy from yet all camera angles, lighting, acting quality and over done BGM are identical to EVERY other drama. It's as if they only have one way of making them. Then again, there was a Chinese drama on TV last night as well which looked just as bad

Didn't they make a live action move ages ago that also sucked gigantic balls?

Yes they did. That was better than the drama but also sucked balls. The Japanese just can't act ! There was once scene where Godai comes homed drunk, carries Kyoko upstairs against her will then falls asleep on top of her. Now in the animation the voice acting is really good while in the drama the woman playing Kyoko (Who I will admit is cute) looked as if she didn't care less about being taken up to Godai's room. Also even though she was saying things like, Yamete, it sounded so feeble:rolleyes:

If I've said it once I've said it a million times. Japanese TV in last ! It's like watching the same shows day after day because they all copy one another.

The one thing I've always noticed about live action shows from Asia in general is that they all seem to have the production value of a western daytime soap opera. It just seems like they hand out the same budget for each program no matter what time it is going to be on the air. Maybe I just haven't seen enough (I admit my viewing is limited) or maybe it is just the shows they air over here.

They're not exactly the best directors either. It's just like w/ doctors in Japan. The good ones, are REALLY fucking good, but 90% of them are atrocious.

Scary thing is, the person with the chicken on her white cloth thingy, reminds me of a woman I knew in my past, and they look like eachother like two drops of water. But I know the young woman who I knew in my past isn´t her at all. But damn it is scary, when I think of what I went through in my past. Scary I say.....

Too F*ucking right ! Do you remember when I broke my wrist last year? The doctor said their was nothing wrong with it ! I told them there was so off to the X-Ray machine we went and what did the soft shit do? X-Rayed the upper part of my arm when I told him it was my wrist and was even walking around with a bag of ice over it. Then he wanted 3000 yen off me for 5 minutes of his time. Needless to say he never got it then off to another doctor I went.

Yeah... the horror stories here are a freakin' joke. A friend of mine was mis-prescribed some medicine. Could've been lethal had he finished the bottle. Luckily it just made him sick. The ones that are educated abroad though are usually shit hot. They do a TV special on Japanese brain surgeon. He resides in the US, but will come back to Japan and do like 40 procedures in 1 month. It's unreal. They show him removing brain tumors... pretty sick, but amazing at the same time.

Hey Densha Otoko and Akihabara@Deep were pretty neat [well akihabara had some really bad acting moments :p] On the other hand stay away from the live action movie of Devilman, bad japanese acting at maximum level [damned those bishonen idols -_-]

Tell us about it the day after it premiers why don't you.

Although looking at the publicity shot I have a bad feeling about it, the older drama series was terrible but at least some of the characters looked like who they were meant to be.

Here, Akemi still doesn't have red hair, is there some law forbidding actresses to dye their hair for parts? Yotsuya looks like he is getting close to drawing his pension rather then looking late 30s as in the manga series. Godai looks like he is in his mid twenties and is far too good looking. Souichiro looks like the wrong breed of dog. Kyoko looks okay, I suppose. But Mrs Ichinose is meant to be 40s, fat and short and currently looks far too young, slim and not that short... oh dear. I hope Kozue and Mitaka are in the drama or it's going to be another poor rehashed drama with no foundation. :(

I still hope that one day an American director might say 'Gunsmith Cats looks a great series to make into a 13 part drama' and get decent money and actresses who look like the characters, rather then which bimbo gave him the best fluting.

The main thing is that real people aren't going to be able to pull off the mishaps that made the original show. 3 bad over-actors boozing in a poor college kid's room all night... just not gonna work.

Naah, it involves infedilety in quite a few situations, drug abuse to the max, and a murder I can´t proove.
So as I said, you are not going to get the story.

I just watched the 1:40 special for this and actually enjoyed it (thanks to Hazuki for the links btw) I agree the acting was terrible, but it's still better than half the shit on British TV. Plus Misaki Ito makes anything watchable, even Lunch no Joou. And that's saying something.

Live in Japan and you'll soon find out that EVERY and I mean EVERY drama looks the same ! You can easily predict what will happen next and be right 99% of the time. This is why Maison Ikokku was shite. Piss poor acting that really did nothing for the high quality animation counterparts, predictable answers and over the top BGM.

There was a drama on TV last night about teachers working in a school that the missus was watching. I sat there predicting everything that would happen in the next 10 minutes and do you know what? I was 100% right ! It's as if they take the same crappy ideas change the scenario and continue with the same crap acting. Watching Japanese TV is like watching repeats EVERY DAY ! Not only dramas but practically everything apart from one or two documentaries.

It’s probably hard to believe but ask anyone who's lived here (and can understand the language) for about 10 years and they'll repeat what I wrote. Believe me, British TV is years ahead of Japanese TV even if it is a sack of shite now compared to what it was 10 years ago.
