http://zedomax.com/blog/2006/11/23/diy-wii-hack-howto-make-your-own-wireless-wii-sensor-bar/ wireless, too. It seems that it's the controller that reads the sensor bar, and not the other way around. The cable attached to the wii's end, only provides power.
Seems pretty simple to make. I wonder if it works as good as the original? They said that their one only uses 4 LEDs while the Wii one used 10. There must be a reason for this? Yakumo
to my understand, the more points you have, the more accurately the wii can detect motion by comparison. Remember, the controller is the one that reads from the sensor bar, not the other way around!
The controller reads from the sensor bar, and sends the signal to the wii console itself? So: Sensor bar------>Controller------------------------>Wii?
what the sensor bar does, is to give infrared location by turning on its LEDS. This is similar to the way a pilot navigates himself, when landing his ship in an airfield. The Wii controller - to my understanding from the video - has an infrared receiver built-in (whereas the sensor bad has LED transmitters) and is able to locate itself by comparing the time/distance of one LED to another. From previous reports, the "resolution" of accuracy with the sensor bar (10 LEDs) is something around 1280x1024 (this number is from the top of my head, you may want to check it) in pixels. so to answer your question in a more direct fashion. Yes. for the purposes of Pointer functions, Sensor bar (always-on LEDS, no logic) -> controller (I assume the controller itself does the matrix calculations rather than sending a raw signal to wii and waiting for a processed result) -> Wii
The controllers use bluetooth for anyone who doesn't already happen to know. The controller tends to freak out past 9 feet or so on the edges of the screen, hopefully someone will come up with a sensor bar that is extendable to various lengths.
great news for candle-lovers. http://www.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/10810/ you can use candles instead of a sensor bar, too!
I can see it now. Some tit will set fire to their TV then try to sue Nintendo because they never put a warning on the Wii stating that you shouldn't use candles or lighters in replacement of the Wii sensor bar. Yakumo
Nice, I wonder if they kept the sensorbar plugged in or if they made a dummy plug for it. And the Ir works as a compass? well thats another reason why the wiimote could've benn released for the GC...
http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/748/748011p1.html bastards at ign never give credit to anyone, do they?
Not only are IGN a bunch of worthless idiots that don't give credit but also worthless idiots that can't even get a simple fact right. Hmm, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there more than two LEDs (blue as well !) in the Wii sensor bar? Yakumo
They re idiots. They get way more credit than they deserve imo. The original video states that a MINIMUM of 2 LEDs would be sufficient for proof of concept, YET, even THEY (in the video) USED 4 LEDs, whereas the OFFICIAL bar contains 10. For fuck's sake, they present in a manner as if they miraculesly discovered this by themselves. Fuckers can't even get a GAMEBIT to unscrew nintendo products, and instead they DRILL THEM (see their nun-chuk and wiimote dissection)
