For my console i am using RGB scart. But i don't like that my sound is coming from my TV, i want to take the audio from the scart and have either the 2 plugs for L+R audio or a 3.5mm jack that i can use to plug into my headset amp. Is it just as simple as taking the audio wires from the cable and hooking them up with ground ?

Yes, use L&R audio lines out and audio ground from SCART cable.
I made a video upscaler and split the audio. From the SCART female connector I wired L&R audio lines to RCA jacks and I have an amplified speaker system connected to it.
You can do the same direct from the modified SCART cable that you're wanting to make.
Save yourself some work ... does your TV have an audio out port/jack?

thanks, but with the orientation of my scart socket i wont be able to use that with a scart cable since the gap between the tv stand and the socket will only just accommodate a sling connector
