Making the Wii region free for Japanese games

So I just imported some Japanese Wii games (one piece unlimited cruise 1 and 2) and I want to play them on on my USA Wii 4.3 U. There are a lot of guides for hacking the wii, but not really any clear instructions for simply making the wii region free. I don't want to hack my wii, just want to play my Japanese games. Do I need the homebrew channel? I pretty new to all this so if anyone can give me instructions or links I would really appreciate it. Also don't want to delete any of my north American saved games on the system. Thanks for the help.

Did you check "Bundle the HackMii Installer for me!" at the LetterBomb site (after inputting your MAC correctly)?

I've never had that black screen come up so you're missing something.
