I want to make a few video's to outline the differences between the retail game and a flash cart version I have recently acquired.

I have seen people's video on youtube etc.. and they all look very professional but I have no idea how to do them. Can anyone help?

Do you want to use a camera or video capture card?

For editing software you can't go wrong with the FREE Virtual Dub for avi files or Virtual Dub MOD for MPEG files. For effects you can also use Virtual Dub but for more high end effects I use ULEAD Video Tool Box. It's very popular here in Japan and I believe that there are English versions as well.

first of all: what equipment do you have?

if you have a tv card that allows for video in that is good. else you can use those set top box hd recorders...

what are you going to capture? what video out does it provide? what video in options do you have?

    infos brings good answers

Well first of you need to provide some more info to what you have or don't.

You could get a capture card, a tv card if the tv card accepts inputs from external sources that is or you could get something like this which plugs into a USB:

I have or did have one of those devices i posted a pic of for copying VHS tapes on my pc and it worked very well and i'm sure it would work just as well using a console with it.

You would need decent software and like yakumo said Virtual dub is good and free but something like Roxio easy media creator, ulead and stuff like that are good to for recording captured footage .

Sorry, i think I may have confused you.

I want to make a video of me playing the game. Lets say I have nothing to do this (apart from my PC with no TV card and my N64 and the flash cart I want to make a video of).

What would I need, what would be the easiest way to get a decent quality video?!

    Thanks

OK, then you need a video camera capable of videoing a TV screen while taking out the scan lines. All cameras will film a TV screen but most of them give you nasty roll bars (Those black lines you sometimes see on piss poor YouTube videos of people gaming). My camera is now 5 years old believe it or not yet it still has a fantastic image. I have a Sharp Viewcam. Those have a setting that can remove scan lines from a TV image. It's all to do with the frame rate of the capture or something like that. Anyway, first search for a video camera that can video a CRT without the nasty scan lines or if you are using a TFT or flat panel TV then any camera will do since they don't produce scan lines like a CRT.

if you need "youtube quality" many webcams are good enough for your task...

if you have the ability to dump the flash cart to a rom, Fraps is always a good option.

Although, I have trouble recording in-game sound when I use it with emulators, so I'm not sure if this would be a good avenue for you. At the least, it would be the simplest and most cost effective (assuming you have the resources to do the dumping).

Hmmm you could use http://wisdom-soft.com/ products, and if it is emulator gaming you are after, then quite a few emulators can record your gameplay.

After all, how hard is it to understand ?

And converters ? well there are loads of free software that can convert one video format to another. The world is at your finger tips, so make use of it.
