I once knew a page that had lots of pictures of so-called "mame failcabs": usually custom-built arcade cabinets that play games from a PC with MAME. I just found a brilliant example for such a cab on ebay.de: http://cgi.ebay.de/Spielhallenautom...pt=de_entertainment_games&hash=item35aac412b6 Just look at the button layout, hilarious. I'm looking forward to more pictures of failcabs
I think that those cabinets you see with a swiss army knife of a control panel are FAIL. I don't understand why people shoe horn a million controls onto the control panel. It makes it look fugly and it doesn't look pleasant to use either.
The classic Pac-Matt deserves a nice place in this thread: CLEAR THE RUNWAY. PAC-MATT IS TAKING THE FUCK OFF!! http://www.wickedretarded.com/~crapmame/
That's the page I was talking about. Incredible how some people manage to totally not get what's essential. What's in there? AIR? And come on, a decently sized monitor doesn't cost more than 200$, that should be worth the effort. The buttons for player 2 are on the leftern side of the stick. How stupid is that? "Wanna play Street Fighter? ALL RIGHT I'M PLAYER ONE SO I WIN LOLOLOL". What was he thinking when he drilled those holes? How stupid can someone be? Why didn't he replace it when he noticed his mistake? Did he notice it even? Oh man... DAMN. And then those fucking retards that put "TOMB RAIDER" or "ZELDA" on their arcade cabinet. FUCKING HELL!!
I'm assuming all the tiny monitors (and in fact most of these cabs) are from a long time ago. The quality of the photos is pretty rough. I mean, even with the other design flaws, nobody is dumb enough to spend all that time and money on all the other hardware and then just throw in a 15" monitor.
AWESOME link! I am in tears of laughter at those rigs! Though the pic you linked to have an anti-link script ;p
My first MAME cab was crap, but after making a much better one I torched it. That site is hilarious though.
DJ Hero Table+My Arcade sticks + Laptop hooked up to my TV VIA HDMI = My mame cab. My Laptop I believe has the same dementions as a CPS2 board
There's a whole section on Arcade Otaku dedicated to shit cabinets. It's a long thread, but worth trawling through for shits n giggles. http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19
as for that one where the P2 arcade stick is on the right - that's common in mexico. You see a lot of Spanish SF players playing "cross handed", they'd be used to playing P2 in Mexico, so they'd cross arms and use their right hand on the stick on an american/japanese cab. Most mame cabinets need a 6 button SF layout to work with most games. that's it. I don't understand why people think they're engineers, I mean fuck. Don't fucking reinvent the wheel, if it isn't broke don't fix it.
I have an actual CPS2 board (Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter) and I can say it's much cooler than a laptop. I would say it's probably bigger than most laptops. Some larger laptops may match the foot print but never the thickness of the A+B board set. Only problem is it's not that practical atleast to me to collect a large amount of PCBs and really if you are going to do it then it only makes sense to have a cabinet or a cabinet for almost every game.
