I was upgrading my PC, so I decided to backup all of my files into DVDs. I used Roxio Retrieve to back them up into 5 DVDs. When I was done, I then crashed my PC to reinstall Windows XP. When I was done, I started loading the CDs. Only to my discovery, the CDs were corrupted. The burner didnt even burn it onto the CD correctly! It burned files, but the files had corrupted data with different weird symbols. I was put out of so much luck! I lost every one of my files, my school documents, my C++ programs I've been working on since 2002! Everything! Man!
Depending on how much HD space you have, they might still be retrievable. You may want to contact technicians in your area to see if they are able to do it.
It was a 150 GB HD. I've already made 5 Partitions on my PC, MS-DOS, Win98, WinNT4, Win2K, & WinXP. I don't know about the DVDs themselves...
Oh yea? I lost 260gb (3 years of work) 6 months ago and am still crying weekly since the majority of my searches for specific files fall short. I feel your pain. I would absolutely love to get the data manually extracted but it is sensitive data and it's on a godforsaken SATA drive.
Friggin sata drives have cost me a couple of times. This last time I was in the middle of getting a release out for work. I am very happy for tape backup.
The thing is that I was right about to backup my C++ projects on a CD-R. I just forgot & hurridly crashed my PC.
I generally make a data partition and a system partition, only wiping out the system partition when I reinstall (and use Ghost on top of that). Just need to back up my data partition more often.
