Has anyone in the UK/Europe got a copy yet and tried playing via the WI-FI here at hot-spots listed on various sites? (www.thecloud.net in the UK)

Got mine on Friday.....quite a laugh against my son evn with the one cart. This morning found that a neighbour as a wireless router so I can log into that So had a quick thrash this morning before coming to work Think I should have written it down is my user ID as can`t seem to find it :-( As was going to see about posting details here somewhere so we can all log in and race against each other.....well for those who are interested. Nintendowifi.co.uk isn`t running yet so don`t know if to register on the US site to get some stats going or wait for the UK site to run. Tried to call "N" in the UK but no-one available so will try again later to see when .co.uk site will be running
It's under WFC friends. You need to know they're friend code though. Here's mine if you want to play: 077369 472505
Good luck getting Friends to work. I've been trying for a week now. Also, get used to cheaters. You'll spot them when they're "hopping" in and out of existence on the track. They love Rainbow Road. I'm enjoying the LAN multiplayer though. I say this is the best Mario Kart since the SNES version. ^_^
I haven't had any problems playing with friends. Every time I log on to NWC I try friends first for a minute and sometimes there are people waiting. That hopping is called snaking and it is a bitch racing against those people. I don't do it because I don't have the skill but if you want to win races against those people you have to snake too.
Yeah, I often just disconnect. I'm wondering what's wrong with Friends that me or any of my friends can't connect. I've heard others are having troubles as well, but Nintendo won't help in any way. If someone wants to play Friends with me that has been able to connect, PM me and we'll trade Friend Codes.
well the game is actually released in germany...but what about that USB Wi-Fi Stick? i'm waiting for that one...no news about it but seems to be delayed...
I've been playing it online over the last few days and its fantastic (apart from the snakers and droppers). If anyone would like a game then add my code and let me know yours: Kron Friend Code: 468211 519477
Sweet, I want in on the action! 528340 459404 Maybe we should hold ourselves a tournament or something... Or a meeting time... Have you guys tried out these friend directories? http://www.wifinintendo.com/ http://nintendofriends.net/ Also, use this site to help with your emblem: http://www.zsivanys.nl/mkdecal/ The site is down at the moment though.
The USB WiFi adaptor - or indeed, the concept of Nintendo WiFi as a network - is total and utter shit. Please bear in mind that since purchasing my DS at launch, I've had nothing but the highest praise for the system. I love it. I love Mario Kart DS. I love playing MKDS online. But NWC is the most poorly thought-out idea ever. Upon ordering Mario Kart, I immediately ordered a USB Wifi adaptor from Nintendo's online store, as I have a wired router for my desktop, with no need for shoddy and unreliable services like wireless internet. While waiting for the adaptor to arrive, I tried to connect to the network via some of the wifi hotspots around town. I tried first at my place of work, which offers wireless to guests. The DS picked up the network, but gave me a very generic error message as I tried to connect - essentially something along the lines of "Cannot connect to network." Real helpful there. So I go to the school library, find a place with good wireless signal, and there I mannage to pass the connection test, and get to the screen with the spinning wheel as I'm logging in to the network. And the connection drops. Generic, unhelpful error again. So I try to connect five more times, and five more times I'm disconnected as I try to log on. And finally the USB adaptor arrives. In the meantime, I've been browsing the Nintendo WiFi forums, and find that a staggering number of users have not been able to connect due to their wired router and/or firewall settings. Nintendo offers a blanket statement about some routers being incompatable, and certain ports the Wifi adaptor uses to connect to the internet, but that is entirely unhelpful for the practical issue of setting up the adaptor with one's own system. I set up the adaptor, and everything installs perfectly. I switch on the DS and get to the NWC connection screen in Mario Kart, and proceed to register my DS with the WiFi adaptor. So far, so good. And then, the moment of truth: I run the connection test. And the signal indicator on my DS shows absolutely nothing. A moment later, I get the message: the DS cannot connect with the WiFi adaptor. So on a whim, I tinker around with ZoneAlarm and on the next try, I get a full three green bars on my DS - which changes to the red no-signal icon shortly before the device informs me that while it can talk with the adaptor, the adaptor's getting no internet. So I try everything else. I open ports in the router's hardware firewall. I disable Zonealarm. I plug my computer naked straight into the cable modem, and I still don't connect. I tried three locations, and never once could I connect to the Nintendo WiFi network. The stories you hear of the ease of connection are total bullshit. Nintendo wants you to do your online gaming with no router and no firewall attached to your PC - vulnerable to any and all sorts of malicious activity - because they're too damn lazy to fine tune their network or offer better documentation for commonly used router/firewall settings. And even if you do strip all of your computer's defenses away, you're still screwed, as the adaptor just doesn't feel like working. I am so ridiculously disappointed in Nintendo. There have been multiple threads and perhaps hundreds of complaints on the WiFi forums about the Linksys BEFSR41 (my model of router) as well as many other commonly used ones, but I have yet to see any response by the Nintendo employees that make up the forum mods. Even something like, "We recognize this is a problem and we're working on it" would be nice, but to no avail. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to try and sell the POS adaptor. Let the buyer beware - Nintendo WiFi in its current state is total crap.
Greatsaintlouis, I suspect that you don't know much about PC's? Every wireless router has a WEP key. Without this key you can't connect to the network. How do expect Nintendo to have made the DS to retrieve the WEP key and connect automatically? It's impossible. The PSP as well as every other device that can connect to a network wirelessly are the same way.
Well you can make a network open - WEP is simply encryption, and can be enabled and disabled as and when you want My main gripe is that it doesn't support WPA-PSK. It's not a new standard, and its a heck of a lot more secure than WEP. WPA2 would be nice too. Unfortunately, because the wireless is implemented in game there's no chance of updates :-( I still ordered my copy yesterday though
very odd, in my telecomunications class i connected easily, as well i bought a netgear router and it worked perfect, though the ds is a bit pickey at times about the type of router it uses and such, still it works great for me and alwasy get an extremely stable conection, in fact their was a test on their site to see if their adaptor is compatible with your comp, as well i got a feeling the area has something to do with it, is there alot of wifi in that area? Cause i know in some areas the signal is week or a bit sensitve, my advice for you, get a router thats wireless, it also supports regular, i skipped on the usb adaptor since i wanted to use other stuff with it, as for yours, hell sell it on ebay or the forum and just switch to a wireless router such as the netgear one i have, a liltte bit high in price, but well worth it in the end, as well i was gonna ask, is there alot of other people using your same connection? meaning do you live in a dorm of any type?
