I've been seeing the same BETA footage of this game on YouTube, after doing a lot more research on the game apparently Mario Kart R was actually a finished near final game. Surely someone would have or seen the cart and surely if it was shown at many game shows that there might be more than one?

For some reason this is one of the much loved BETAs for me, does anybody have any more information on it?

I also did a quick forum search about this and nothing came up for me, so I apologize if this has been brought up a lot.

OK now you guys are confusing me. Mario Kart R is just the early name for Mario Kart 64, isn't it? Calling "Mario Kart R" a "finished near final game" makes it sound like it was supposed to a whole separate game that got cancelled. Snes4ever's post just gets me even more confused @_@

Mario Kart R is the Beta of Mario Kart 64 before they changed the name. Mario Kart R is some what different, as you can tell by some quick videos of game play all over YouTube.

Mario Kart R is also the name of a Super Mario Kart hack by d4s. Which is what Snes4ever might've been talking about.

I would have much rather had Magikoopa/Kamek over Wario, but that's just me.

I would have rather had Waluigi over donkey kong. I realize he wasn't even thought up yet.

From what I heard, Mario Kart R's name was changed because Sega was making Sonic R, so there was a copyright issue. Also, I would have loved Magikoopa instead of DK. I really wish someone would dump the beta, unless this is locked up in Nintendo's proto vault. :(

    you can't copyright the letter R :p

MarioKart R is different in certain respects. There was a good French website a while back dealing with the differences, so google it up.

There is no leaked version as far as I know so don't get your hopes up.

I think they just went with the name mario kart 64 for marketing purposes to keep with the consistency of the name mario 64.
