Whats the point? activision already said they wont bother with social and free-to-play games because COD makes waaaaaay more money And I recall some big company at quakecon saying appstores were done for, and not worth the cost Problem with these games is that 99% of all the players use the free/lite version and never pay To those old enough to remember, this "new economy" BS had a different name before SHAREWARE Didnt work back then, wont work now
That would be against many of nintendo's beliefs. I personally wouldn't count on it. I mean the controls on an iphone are horrible and I'm getting one - certainly not for the games though. The 3DS' flop is a matter of bad timing/pricing and ofcourse a lack of quality titles. I can say this with full certainty since I'm a huge nintendo fan that has always bought consoles on launch, yet I've skipped this one for now until they a)get the battery life running more hours and b) redesign it.
I imagine Nintendo to be the last of the big three to do this. The way I see it is that even people who don't like Nintendo hardware put up with it so they can enjoy those sweet sweet first party titles. If I could get the proper Mario or Zelda experience on a phone, there's no way I woud screw around with the 3DS.
If this is ever gonna happen - RIP Nintendo. Never going to buy anything from you again. But feel flattered that I love to collect stuff from your big tymes. Any software on the iPhone or comparable mobile devies can go fuck itself. I am paying for collectibles, hard matter, not licenses, I'm no mobile phone company.
People often forget that Nintendo has released games on non-Nintendo hardware. Donkey Kong on the Atari 7800, for example. And Sega released PC ports and ports to other consoles even before they got out of the hardware business.
In ye olde days, Nintendo like other arcade companies did license their game to companies as at the time none of them had any consoles in the west. Coleco got the console rights for Donkey Kong and Atari go the computer rights (for America at least), Ocean Software in the UK would officially license Donkey Kong in 1986 (finger on the pulse there....). Nintendo really stopped licensing games once the NES and Famicom took hold and they had market share in the countries involved. Although quick trivia question, which of these hardware platforms has Mario not appeared on officiallly Commodore 64 Sony Playstation 2 Mattel Intellivision Coleco Adam MSX Pokemon Mini
Jamtex: the C64 had a Giana Sisters hack where it was Mario instead of Gianna. So if your answer is the C64, then it is debatable.
Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. were both on C64. I'd say PS2, Pokemon Mini and depending if you count cancelled games or not, the Coleco Adam.
Bing bing, a winner is you! Yes surprisingly Mario did not appear on the Pokemon Mini, the first Nintendo console he never did. So you are saying, but Mario never appeared on the Sony Playstation 2, and you right he did not, but the question was what hardware has Mario never appear on, Namco did use the System 246 board which was basically a Playstation 2 and Mario did appear in the game Taiko no Tatsujin 8.... Going back to the topic, Stupid lazy American Journalists do need to stop writing that smartphone = iphone, there are many other smartphone technologies, esp in Japan. From what I can gather, investors want Nintendo to release games on smartphone platforms or develop something totally new, a Nintendo based smartphone woould probably worry Apple...
