Minimum posting requirements simply says your worthy because you hit the "post quick reply" button 50 times. And it ignores everything else.

I ran into a problem on Neo-Geo.com where I wasn't allowed to sell items because I didn't meet the minimum posting requirements. But in reality I'd been there for years under different names that on their own didn't meet the requirements. I've also sent hundreds of people to their site over the years by giving the address to people who asked me Neo Geo questions that I was unable to answer. So when they started the rule that I couldn't sell just because my post count wasn't high enough it was a bit of a slap in the face. I'd contributed in a lot of other ways that wasn't reflected in my post count for any one screen name.

I think if you have a reputation in the video game community it should follow you from board to board. Stripping down users and defining their commitment purely through the number of posts ends up locking out a lot of good people whose only crime is that they're human and can't manage to post on 10+ sites daily. I'd rather have in depth, meaningful contributions on a handful of sites. But the way things are going now I find that I'm being penalized for that since posting here makes me less able to sell on another board. That especially sucks for me since I rarely ever sell things here, I want this to be more of my personal hobby site than a work related site.

Maybe you can have the 50 post minimum requirement but also have a system for that to be waived if someone can demonstrate an overall commitment and reputation in the video game community. I was able to talk to the mods at Neo-Geo.com and explain my situation and they allowed me to post.

if people actually used the reputation button, it could have been a great way to check on people's reputation.

50 sounds fair for most cases, but exceptions should always be considered.

"PM the Exceptions Moderator on the Second Floor and come back with a stamped receipt."

    lovely smell of buraucracy!

    @Japan-Games.com:

Certainly, some members are widely known for their contributions in the field of video games (Like Parris, who was recently hired by SONY to provide a step-by-step manual on how to fix a PS4 devkit). Provided they can prove their authenticity, a "board-to-board" reference system is always a good idea in my view.

I'll admit, I'm biased. If it magically became equal or less than my post count, I'd be alright with that. ;)

50 is a barrier though. To be honest, I was a little put off by the existing 50 post restriction, so I had to figure if it was worth my time to participate. I don't mean that in a negative way, just that being active in any community is a commitment. Most of my forum hopping is in standard development communities, and that eats up a lot of time as it is. But I've always been a huge console development nut, not really tied to just one platform. I've made the odd appearance in the development/homebrew scenes, but not enough that I'd have any cred. Really, I'm just one of those guys that was thankful companies like Bung were around, and all those helpful people like Jeff Frohwein, Marcus Comstedt, the Hitmen, and so many others shared that console development gold with the rest of us.

I don't really know what my point is, but the fear that what I'm looking for is borderline the current restrictions has kept me honest as far as post counts. I don't like the idea of shitting in a post for count, short the odd quip for sake of my sense of humor. I could certainly bring back some dead threads with useless trivia to jack it up in a weekend, but I really don't want to look like an ass.

I want the privilege to use the marketplace, so it looks like I'm going to have to actually talk to you people, and maybe get to know some of you a bit. Yikes! :D

Just post rambling bollocks, it's never failed me and I am well over the 3k post mark without having a single clue :033: <He half jests...knowing it's the truth!>

Actually my first post (on this account) was a sales post too, which got deleted pretty quick

Back then I disliked it it because I came to sell of some of my stuff into "good hands" - as in people who know how to take care of rare and obscure stuff rather than throwing it into random peoples hands on ebay.

This was after I had already stopped collecting for years and just wanted the last few bits to go.

Now the 50 post limit forced me to read and participate wherever I can. And now look at me, I'm back into buying obscure and dev stuff again and unboxed most of my storage crap to look through it for unreleased and debug code again. :noooo: Curse you 50 post limit!

To be fair though, in under a month you are already half way to the limit. If you are as active as you are, then 50 is not a hard task. And if you aren't as active, then you will just have to wait a little longer!

Personally, I'd like to see people with less than 50 posts being granted read only access - therefore they can't sell, and if they desperately want something then it can be sold at the sellers discretion through PMs, and a seller could put a "no sale to users under 50 posts" clause in their sale thread.
For something amazing and rare which someone wants to sell, then PM'ing mods and pleading a case would be the way forward - probably with some kind of evidence of ownership, and possibly even using some kind of escrow or send-first system.

Only down side, the messaged mod gets first dibs. :D

Not that unfair though, since you guys have obviously done something to deserve the status.

Yeah, it's not really that difficult if you have something to share. I'll probably break 30 by the end of the night. I just wanted to give my perspective, being a noob around here. If anything, I probably support the idea. If it helps to encourage better users in the community, it's probably a good thing.

I quite like the idea becuase at the end of the day this forum is about mostly about discussing old, new, rare, obsucre video games as well as other things and when i joined it was ultimately to share my interest of video gamming with other like minded people and up untill recently i've only used the marketplace once becuase i'm not here to try and find dev stuff, rare or obscure stuff to buy.

I don't like the idea of people comming here just to try and use it like ebay without contributing to discussions and joining in.

The votes are in. No one is allowed to use the marketplace for selling.
Sellers my at their own risk accept purchases from anyone under 50 posts.

People caught spam posting to reach the threshold will be banned.
