The recent thread got me interested in the FM Towns Marty, and I was reading the page about a game called "Scavenger 4". This looks extremely similar to a US game called Novastorm, released by Psygnosis in 1994. Scavenger 4: http://assembler.roarvgm.com/fmtowns/Marty_gallery/Scavenger/scavenger.html Novastorm: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/novastorm Here's a pic from the Japanese Marty version: And here's a screenshot I took of Novastorm running in dosbox: I used to play this game quite a bit when I was a kid and the similarities are striking. The US Novastorm game mentions the term "scavenger 4" during the intro movie, and the game scenery looks very similar from the screenshots. The only difference I could see would be the different video border. Does anyone have any info on how these two are related?
It's the same game. Quite strange really that Psygnosis made a Marty game when the are a Liverpool based software house in the UK. The Marty wasn't even released over here as far as I know. Unless someone else bought the license? Yakumo
There are "loads" of Psygnosis games for FM Towns, many of which were coded in England, them having FM hardware in the offices and not knowing wtf it was except it were easy to programme for. The topic has come up in a few post glory days magazine interviews. Of top ome head can thinlk of Awesome, Infestation, Beast I & II, Scavenger, Microcsom, Gunship, Lemmings.....even the Planetside fractal engine Demo! I've never heard of Megamorph...any pics!!!?
If you dont mind that would be great, im a big Psygnosis fan and have never seen such wonders! @ karsten yeah Microcosm was on 3D0....and Mega CD, PC, Amiga CD32. Scavenger 4/Novastrom also made it to PSOne, 3DO & probably PC.
Marty compatible then uh? Why arent there any FM Towns websites in English, seems popular enough, at least a Marty compatibilty list, someone should start one, people must have at least 50 induvidual games between em on thsi site alone.
Nope, unfortunately not - would have been interesting to see what a Saturn version would have looked like as all other versions (Marty, PC, 3DO, PSOne) all have different levels / graphics / soundtracks.
Nice one thats great, thanks for remembering. Ill prolly never play it, I just dont fancy bothering with Unz.
Psygnosis used to pick interesting hardware and release games on it, trying to push for the best technology. That means you sometimes see their games on weird formats.
