Hi I'm planning to buy a Master Everdrive (When available), for Sega Master System games. I already own a modded Sega Megadrive (The first one) and I've seen there is a converter which allows playing Master System cartridges on a Megadrive. So, if I buy the converter, will I be able to play Master System games through the Master Everdrive? Are any incomplatibility known? Thanks in adavance for the anwswer.
I don't see why it wouldn't work. I can double check later to see if it works with my Gen 1. Option 2 if you want SMS games is just to get the EDMD.
Yes, that works, with both Master System Converters. I use the big one for the 3-D games and the small one for regular playing. When you have a full mod on you Mega Drive you can even change the title screens/language of some games. Of course you can buy an EDMD too, like goombakid said. But there a things you can't do with an EDMD, f.e. the 3-D games (need to connect the glasses to the card slot of a MasterSystemIII/Converter), or playing GameGear games (via converter).
Hi Thanks for the answers. I didn't know that the converter will give the option to use the 3D Glasses (that's great!) I supposse the FM Sound feature is not an option, right? My Megadrive is PAL, but it does have the region and 50/60 mods, so it's great to know that region change will work on SMS games too So, for now, I don't need an SMS console, and it seems I won`t need a Gamegear too (I don't know if there's an adpater to Gamegear games for Megadrive)
There's no Gamegear adapter for Megadrive, or surprisingly a Japanese language mod for English Gamegear units either.
Sega power based converter for model 1 Genesis/Mega Drive has slot for glasses. But if just using SMS roms, then standard Everdrive MD supports SMS games just fine. Kind of like two for price of one. Do the newer Everdrive MD support adding SMS pause button?
The SMS pause button was only removed for 1 PCB revision (2.1 or 2.2 I can't remember). Those PCBs still supported it, just did not come with it. All current EverDrive-MD have pause button installed.
It would be easier to get the Everdrive MD to play Sega Master system games on your genesis. The only problem is with that, you use the 3D glasses peripheral, and the Genesis controller is incompatible with some games like Alien Syndrome, Penguin Land, and several others. So you will be forced to use that inferior Sega Master controller on your Genesis. Also, SG-1000 was an obscure system from Japan that was never released in America, and even though it's just basically like a Colecovision's graphics, but with SEGA's name on it instead, those are still some fun games. But SG-1000 roms will not play on the Genesis either. I recommend getting a Master Everdrive cart only if you're going to use it on an actual Sega Master console, so you can get the full Sega Master experience and play all games (or at least more games than you can play on Genesis).
There is a jumper on *some* GameGear units, no idea what it does as of yet. I'd doubt its a region setting as the GameGear didn't really differentiate between languages like other consoles did, at least to my knowledge.
Yup exceedingly rare, that I know of at least. I'd be very surprised if anywhere close to a dozen unique titles bothered. At least four are known. Of course it's easy to check with an emulator to see what games have immediate differences. A good question is whether the GameGear's master system mode also gets affected.
