I have a PAL Master Sytem 2, the one with the sonic bios. The video encoder is MB3514. So i removed the RF module and i've done the RGB mod. My led tv doesn't like composite as sync so i'm using luma as sync. The problem is that i have ugly jailbars. They are most visible on black. Will it help if i relocate MB3514?
Try and use a crt tv or try a toshiba tv lcd as it dont have jailbars or try a french rgb cable theres a few on ebay.fr. as the offical rgb has extra stuff in there to remove most of the jail bars.
Usually jailbars are most visible on blue. I notice that on a US Master System 1. There isn't yet consensus though it's possible the same issue plaguing Megadrive applies here.
I literally just modded a master system with this chip and it looks fantastic on LCD and CRT screens, no jailbars or anything, granted an irritating and rather loud humming noise from the audio but no jailbars (any ideas for this would be appreciated by the way). I wonder if it comes from the sync you're using as I've had no trouble with the composite. Did you solder directly to the legs of the chip?
Sorry to hyjack the post. I modded my sega model 1 with s-video and i get jailbars with that. Its mostly on the black background as well. I was wondering if i remove the whole rf modulator and everything that gose with it. Would that cut down on any interference? So i guess im in the same boat only with a genesis. Thanks Scott
The image on a CRT TV is perfect, but i get jailbars on a 40 inch led tv. Yes, i connected the wires directoly on the chip legs. staylor - there's a special tread with the fix for your problem.
I get terrible jail bars with my Mega Drive 1 and that's on a CRT. Could it not be partly down to the scart cable?
Did the mod on another sms2 that has CXA1145P. Same problem. Excellent on CRT, jaibars on LED. I also made a RGB cable from a vga cable. No difference.
Modern TVs seem to have issues with Sega hardware I've noticed. It could be that your TV doesn't really play nice with the SMS while the CRT doesn't really care.
I did the switchless mod and i don't have that noise in 60 HZ and the image is very nice. Any chance to remove them from 50hz? I also noticed that the ghosting present in 50 hz is not present in 60 hz. Is there a easy way to convert 5v to 12v so that the tv will switch in 4:3 mode?
Jailbars on black? How unusual... I don't have any useful comment about it. How do large sections of blue look? It's the most common issue with RGB. Easiest place to check that is Green Hill Zone.
40 inch led tv sms2 60 hz + cxa1145 sync on composite = jailbars are kind of visible sms2 60 hz + mb3514 sync on luma = you have to look very very hard to see the jailbars PS: both system have pin 6 lifted (subcarrier). I need to find a way to make them look nice in 50 hz too. Also i need to find a simple way to convert 5v to 12v
