Picked up a master system that's working great except no audio. The caps look great, so I might just replace them all to see if it fixes it, but has anyone had this issue before? I can take pics if it'd help, but the entire board looks near immaculate with no obvious damage. Also, what chip on a master system outputs the audio? I'm not really having much luck tracing it from the output and I can't find info about an audio chip on the master system. Any help is appreciated!
Apparently, the VDP is also used for audio. I found the service manual online and if I am reading this right, a faulty VDP could cause this. I am by no means an expert so I could be wrong. Now before freaking out, I need to ask a simple question. Are you using a Genesis 2 A/V or RGB cable wired for stereo audio via a mono Genesis Model 1 32X patch cable adapter? If you are, that is why you aren't getting audio. Stereo-wired Genesis 2 cables do not have the mono audio pin wired up, meaning you won't get sound on a SMS with that cable and adapter. If you answered no to the above question, please proceed to freak out because I have no clue. :/ Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will respond.
I wish it was that simple, probably a faulty VDP then. I've tried over both RF and Genesis 1 AV cable. But thanks for the link to that service manual, maybe I'll find some answers there. I'm hoping it's just a cap or a trace thats fucked or something easy.
