NTSC / PAL correction is a use for them. If you're trying to do things like force a PAL game to 60hz, the picture may be off-center. Modded PS2s are best on a multi-format TV to minimize having to deal with it.
I have an Sony Triniton TV (Europe) with PS2 support advertising and multiformat support and a PAL console. I've asked about those options because I have an M7 modchip and I don't know if they are supported and to understand better how other modchips works. For the moment the games I've played are only NTSC. About the image I don't see any axix problems. From what I've read PS2 SCREEN FIX is only used on single format TV (NTSC or PAL). But for Y FIX maybe when you play some NTSC games on PAL console they are centered wrong or vice versa? If I play only in they region without forcing anything they will have no problem? This problem with Y FIX appear only when you force a NTSC game to be played in PAL format, correct? That problem appear because the game was created/encoded for NTSC only. Thanks!
I think so. On a multiformat TV, try leaving the settings default or automatic to let games decide for themselves. There's more likely to be issues when playing PAL games in NTSC format. PAL is higher resolution, so the picture top and bottom may be cutoff. Plus many NTSC TVs lack PAL support.
FWIK on PlayStation 2 the game select the format not the console. For example if you play a PAL game on a NTSC console it will be played in PAL format and vice versa. About PSX SCREEN FIX on Matrix Infinity modchip I saw that on my M7 modchip playing PlayStation 1 NTSC games will have image problem with the axis (probably M7 team didn't programmed the modchip to fix this problem) but this problem with the image for the moment doesn't exist when I'm playing PlayStation 2 NTSC games (so far I've tested some games like Clock Tower 3, Full Metal Alchimist, Castlevania's, The Haunting Ground, Melty Blood's, Silent Hill Origins etc - NTSC-J/NTSC-U).
Oh, right. I'm not too familiar with it myself but Playstation 1 games are handled differently. Look up this homebrew. It might help. http://ichiba.geocities.jp/ysai187/PS2/PS1VModeNeg.htm
