Well the X3 can handle 750GB in IDE and 2TB in sata. But you can not use the X3 chip to format it if the drive is bigger than 400 gigs I think. You need to use XBpartitoner 1.3 - LBA48 patch v3 (released 10 months ago) It automaticly knows what size clusters to use. The X3 only formats in 16kb clusters and larger partitions require 32kb clusters and 64kb clusters. BTW in case you did not know that on 3-30-13 there was a new version of xbpartioner 1.3 released. It fixed some problems with freezes on 1GB partitions. It is available on eurasia. This is so much better than all the other versions.
I just played with my xbox bios just now and it has option for LBA48 selecting opion 2 is F drive gets 160GB and G gets the rest btw how do I use sata hdd on it either way thanks for confirming I purchased a 500gb as that's will do me just fine (PATA) EDIT: I got XBpartitoner 1.3 so we shall see how things go once hdd arrives
You need a IDE to SATA adapter. I have this model and it works perfectly for me. KINGWIN ADP-06 SATA TO IDE BRIDGE BOARD
I got loads of IDE adaptors in a box that I don't use any more I will test them out and see which works thanks
When you use the 500 gig drive you must reformat it with XBpartioner. The X3 will format it and you will think it is ok, but once you get the drive more than half full the data starts becoming corrupted. Like I said it is because it is formated in 16kb. I always keep the F and G drive the same size and they can both be formated with 16kb or 32kb. If not you will format F 137 gigs with 16kb clusters and G will be formated at 32kb clusters. It can cause issues later with data corruptions. There is a option in XBpartitioner you push the B button to distribute space among extended partitions. I have been messing around with the X3s for a long time and have seen all types of issues and solutions to them. I have spent a lot of time transferring data for 18 hours and then the data starts corrupting. It is a pain to start over. Also after you are done make sure you restart the xbox before you waste time transferring data. There is a option in the X3 about using partitions and if it is not set right it will force the drive back to 137 gigs and corrupt the data. Just make sure after you restart the the drives are still even. That has happened to me before also.
