My Sophia is still in a thousand pieces waiting to have proper photos taken when it is a sunny day...
However I keep staring at the empty white (OK off-white) RAM slots.
Anyone know what the minimum and maximum RAM was for these units?
I know I have no SH-2 CPUs... but well at least RAM is easy to come by right?
    Any ideas?

(Why are there never post icons for the weird stuff I post about... TeraDrives, Mega PCs, Sophias :wink-new:)

They're custom CPUs. If you don't have two, you'll never get it working, so RAM is a moot point. As for easy to come by, the RAM isn't all that common any more and you will be very hard pressed to find two Sophia SH-2s. And then you'd have to hope the CD drive is OK.

Lots of bridges and lots of paths, I know, I know. Baby steps :smile-new: But any ideas?
I'd rather a partially filled shell than an empty one.

The SH2 addresses four spaces, each of which is a maximum of 32MB. I'd guess the ram is a single space, meaning the max would be 32MB. I forget which space does what on the Saturn, but off the top of my head, the 32X spaces are hardware, cart, frame buffers, and SDRAM. The Saturn should be similar... I know the space used for the high work ram on the Saturn is the same as the SDRAM space on the 32X: 0x06000000.

Looks like I am after some 8MB chips then! :encouragement:
    Thanks for the responses everyone!
Side note: I'll be giving the CD drive a test spliced with a VA0 Saturn in coming weeks to see if anything magical happens.

    Thanks again! :loyal:

According to the manual you should use 8MB SIMM made by Samsung, Type KMM5362000B2G-7, with access time 70ns. This is the only type of memory that the manual states will work with the software system. To be fair it does not state that no other memory sticks will work, but everything else on the Sophia seems to be part specific, so I would not be surprised if only one specific brand/model of memory were to work.

Thanks for the heads up! Looks like that RAM might be as rare as the SH-2 CPUs I am missing :wink-new: Hehehe

And looking at screenshots of the Sophia, there's four slots, making a total of 32MB like I mentioned. Seems to check out. :)
