Someone I know has a game that I've never seen before, a Mega Drive unlicensed title that calls itself "Mallet Legend" and is basically a whac-a-mole clone. Here's a picture of the box, the special Whac-A-Mole-controller for the Mega Drive, and the game itself (on a unique, very small cart) And here's a video of the game in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thP_kH-dwK8&feature=related The Youtube video description includes a lot of information about the origin of the game and the circumstances of the release. And indeed, on the back of the box every of the typical "is not lincensed by blablabla" is referring to Sega of America. Any idea how valuable this is? Is there a single edition w/out the controller?
Wow, that's a nice find. Reminds me of the Dreamcast Parapara Konami rip off game. taht also came with it's own PS2 cloned controller which worked very well.
http://www.guardiana.net/MDG-Database/Company/Realtec.html I think it's WAC. The mallet is pretty rare. The last one I saw (better box) was a few months ago on ebay germany, sold for E300 or thereabouts.
The controller's reaction can seem quite weird (spring buttons!). There is also some sprite flicker when it gets really fast which can be annoying. But the graphics look ok, the animals are lovely drawn and the music is nice and fast-paced. I'd buy it anytime, but he won't sell it to me Obtained was the item on a German fleamarket about 10 years ago for approx. 20 Euro. @wheelaa Cool, thanks for the info. 300 pounds sounds tough, but realistic. You don't see a dedicated unlicensed controller every day that is already quite rare on its own. Was (Is) Realtec a Chinese company? According to Guardiana they also released a Chinese chess game, I doubt that American developers would come up with something like that.
Realtec is a Taiwanese company. They made some other shitty MD games plus had a hand in creating some Famicom pirates, including the port of Shinobi 3. Their MD games sucked, at least their Famicom work was interesting since it was familiar games.
... This game was developed by a company in Taiwan called AV Artisan. Realtec was their publisher. AV Artisan developed a few other Mega Drive games (all shitty), and two games for the Super A'can.
Love the Engrish at the back: === When the evil monster kidnaps the beautiful princess Philia and her little dog. What does prince David gonna do about it ? David is not cry or hide.He takes his big Mallet and··· • Special Keyboard offer. • Arcade simulation-style hitting game. • Digitized sound effect. === So David takes his big mallet because he's not cry. More seriously, the "special keyboard offer" suggests a limited run for this edition.
I doubt it is a limited edition in the sense that it's some kind of special version. It's just their way of highlighting the fact it has the peripheral in the package.
I seemed to understand there were two versions, one with controller, one without, and then the American version?
