The difference is amazing. My question: these pictures are taken from my tv, which gets the signal directly from my MD. Would an upscaler make a lot of difference, or is the quality pretty much as good as it gets?
S video looks OK but it's still leagues behind RGB. Get an upscale unit like the Framemeister or XRGB3. Both of them will make your Mega Drive look much much better. Take a look at the screen shots in my sales thread. They were all taken from a HD TV in 720p via the Framemeister http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...3;ター)X-RGBmini-BRAND-NEW!!
IMO MegaDrive is best played via RGB on a CRT it's pretty damn awesome. for a MK1 yeah good quality cables and the direct from chip stereo audio mod = awesomeness i got a ebay RGB scart cable for my MD and modified it somewhat (and the console) looks great. My MD via RGB in action + closeup at the end. will need to do one on a LCD tv too
Thanks for the answers guys. The only question that remains for me is whether to spend a ton of money and get a nice upscaler, or go cheap and get a great CRT that takes a lot of room. By the way: can the Mega Drive output in 16:9, or is it always in 4:3 ratio?
4:3 only. Some RGB SCART capable TVs may incorrectly detect 16:9 depending on the cable., but I'm in USA so I can't witness that myself.
if you check my vid in the post above that's why i have to switch manually from 16:9 to 4:3 but if i want to fix that all i need to do is disconnect pin 16(i think) on the scart cable which i've not done yet. if you have a nice big LCD/LED/PLASMA etc then it's probably worth shelling out for the upscaler, i have some CRTs as i'm into lightgun games(and CRTs are just cool and generally cheap/free)
