This may sound like a very stupid question. In terms of PlayStation development gear where all the hardware model numbers begin with DTL, what does it actually stand for? I have suspicions that it might stand for Development Team Licence. Can anyone confirm or unconfirm my suspicions about that? An Extension to this topic is the suffix after the dash in the model number, for example DTL-H1000. I have ideas on what they might mean as well, H - Hardware. S - Software, T - Tool, D- Documentation, P - Papers. Do these seem likely?
I think it is more likely that DTL stands for 3 words, because if you look at some of their other acronyms like SCEE, SCPH, SLES each letter stands for a word. That’s not say its impossible what you have said, but maybe Development Tool Licence is more likely. The reason why I think that the L probably stands for Licence is because all the Sony Dev gear is licensed not sold. On a side note, I am putting together a huge Excel spreadsheet of every DTL prefixed thing I know of. The list so far has almost 100 entries, of which about three quarters are confirmed.
It's from the internal devision that takes care of that stuff. Development Tools (and) Licensing DTL model XXX
