What's the best combination of joysticks/rudder pedals/etc to use to make this feel more like a simulation? Opinions welcome, posts that introduce off-topic political bullshit are not :smt023 .

Is it even possible to plug in more than one joystick on an older machine?

I'm going to be using the Compaq I got for free (specs are in the "Best deal(ish)" thread).

  2. Well, seeing as XBox controllers are USB +1 wire... why not get a Steel Battallion setup and configure that for MW2? :-D :smt043

On a more serious note, (I didn't see the thread on your new Compaq), I'd say that if it's an older machine, you'd probably be best with trying to do a joystick, throttle joystick (if you can plug it in) and keyboard. I'm not sure if pedals or anything else would be feaseable, much less recognized by the game.

I'm pretty sure it's stated in the manual that it accepts different types of rudder pedals, but they're older (it would be an eBay buy).

By the way, this is actually to tide me over until I get enough money to buy Steel Battalion :) (I have enough, but I have to save for my car insurance [insurance + being 17 = rape]).

    Edit: Machine specs are:

    AMD K6-2 533 mhz
    15 gig HD
Diamond Monster 3D II (would've put in a TNT 2 that I have lying around, but the motherboard has no AGP slot
    :smt067 )
    192 mb RAM

I have about three copies of Mechwarrior (Windows edition, first edition, and "Titanium" edition), and I'm not worried about the computer specs, although I'd rather not use the Titatium edition unless I had to (it's buggy as shit).

  4. Don't you mean, [insurance + being male under age 80 = rape]? :angry

But yeah, never really heard of any pedal/rudder setup for something as old a MechWarrior, so I'm probably not your best bet for info. There's always places like GoodWill, Value Village, and non-chain thriftstores, which can be goldmines for old PC hardware, so it would behoove you to check one of those out before getting scalped on ebay.

Does Mechwarrior support the CyberMaxx or a comparable VR headset? :-D

I was thrilled to see that it supports both the CyberMaxx and Virtual I/O headsets, but then I saw the prices for the two of them :smt067 .

I've made a plan for myself that once my savings accounts hits a certain amount, I'll buy either Steel Battalion or a VR headset (my brother would sell his soul for either of them :prayer: ).

I'll probably go with the VR headset (looking at Virtual I/O), as there are a few more favorite games of mine that support it.
