So, as some of you may be aware, I recently got my Virtua Fighter 3 board up and running. It's amazing, but I'm currently forced to use an upscaler to play it on my computer monitor. It's certainly playable like that, but it's not ideal. I really want a display that will accept the Model 3's native 24khz medium resolution. The ideal solution would be to put it in an actual arcade cab with a dual/trisync monitor like the Astro City. However, I don't currently have the funds for such things. I could also just buy an arcade monitor, but it wouldn't have housing, and I really don't want to build housing for one.

So currently I'm trying to find a computer/video monitor that will accept 24khz/EGA. They're hard to find, though. There are some old computer monitors that accept EGA, but I think they only accept it as a digital signal, not as analog RGB. I am fairly certain that some models of the Sony GVM series will accept that resolution, but they're pretty rare. There are some other computer monitors that I think might work - like the Mitsubishi Diamond Scan 20M - but again, they're hard to find.

One possibility that I'm looking at is a Sony PVM-20L5 or a similar HD PVM. Supposedly the 20L5 supports 15-45khz signals. Whether that means it supports all resolutions in between, and whether it supports 24khz, I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this? I'm also wondering, since it probably supports 31khz, if I could use a Dreamcast or similar VGA device on it if I used a sync combiner. The 20L5 only accepts composite sync. Any more info on this would be appreciated.

I would greatly appreciate any information people might have about medium resolution monitors in general. It seems like a rather obscure subject, but surely someone has some relevant knowledge.

Nobody has any information on this? Not that surprising, I guess. I've done some pretty extensive research into this, but there's a dearth of information about it on the internet. It seems as if most people in my position (Model 3 owners) either opt for a full arcade cabinet, or do as I have and use a GBS 8220 scaler or similar device. Nothing in between. I wonder why it's such an obscure topic.
