Hey guys I have been offered a CD PLUS+ cart for pal mega cd and wondered if it works with VAY and LUNAR on SEGA CD. Really wanna play those games and trying to find out of this cart will work with them. here's what it looks like http://www.sega-mega-cd-library.co.uk/index1.html
I don't own a CD Plus cart but I do have experience with Datel's Pro CDX. From what I could tell the PAl to NTSC compatibility was pretty much spot on, the dozen or so PAL titles I have worked fine. Although that's the opposite of what you're wanting to do I assume it would be a similar amount of compatibility the opposite direction. Running JP games on US or PAL machines is where the compatibility really took a dive, and from those I spoke with there was more compatibility running JP games on a PAL machine than a US one.
Thanks for the input. I managed to contact the owner of the mega cd library website and he confirmed that it does work fine so i'll bite the bullet! Thanks for replying once again, i'm confident it'll work now.
One last thing, I noticed with Datel's adapter there are several versions of it, many with the same packaging and no way to determine the version until you plug the cart in and see the version listed onscreen. I have no idea if this would apply to the adapters from other companies but and I can't test a whole lot myself because I own only a model 2 CD, but one older version I have of the CDX will only work with a model 1 CD. it throws up an error message about being intended for a different model hardware. I don't know if newer versions are cross compatible with both model 1/2 or just 2, but definitely the older ones only work on model 1's. Just something to keep in mind just in case the one you buy doesn't work at all with your particular hardware setup.
Might be worth looking at a getting a Everdrive-MD V3. I believe you can use them to play imports on your mega cd (I don't own one so cant test). Costs under £60 from http://shop.retrogate.com/main.sc
