I've got an European Mega CD 1 that's been working just fine for many years, except that I have replaced the fuse one time (surprising, huh? ;) ) with no troubles.

Now I haven't used the console for quite a while, and it doesn't work any more. It simply doesn't power on at all.

I've checked the AC adapter and it's fine (it also works with my Mega Drive 1) and the fuse is also OK. I don't have any experience with troubleshooting for the Mega CD, but maybe someone here can point me in the right direction. I have some experience with soldering and electronics though.

The socket where I insert the adapter plug is fine, according to my voltage meter. When I check for continuity over the fuse, it's OK, but I don't get any voltage so that's a problem I suppose. What's the next step? I haven't disassembled the unit fully yet or looked on the bottom of the power board, since I was hoping it was just the fuse but I guess I have to now.

I suppose there's a voltage regulator there where I could measure the voltage? Thanks!

Disassemble it and take high resolution pictures of the big board with the large SEGA chip. We're going to check for leaky capacitors.

Thanks a lot! Here are some high resolution pictures of that board, and a couple of the power board. Let me know if you need more/better pictures. If you like, you can open the images in a new tab for full resolution.

Eh.. OK, so I replaced the fuse -again- and now it works. I have no idea what I was doing before, sorry for taking up your time!

Be careful, someone might be connecting a power supply with positive center to it. Or worse, a NES power supply (which is AC).
