    Hi guys,

I have been searching for an answer to this for a little while now with no luck.

I own a 50/60Hz and region switching PAL megadrive and would like to avoid paying the massive price that comes with the pal version.

So, if I get a US Sega CD and connect it to my megadrive in 60hz mode then would it just work like a US genesis&Sega CD?

I also have an everdrive MD if that helps me

You should be able to run the MegaCD at 60hz just fine, to load NTSC games you can get a region free bios for the MegaCD (either fitting a chip, or use the megakey function of the everdrive).

    No need to buy anything

nah the point is that I dont have a Mega CD and I am hoping that my options are open as Sega CD or Jap Mega CD are way cheaper than PAL Mega CD

I am trying to establish what versions of the console are safe for me to buy.

Get the version of CD system to match whatever you run the console in most. PAL for Europe spec 50hz and NTSC for the US spec 60hz. Or do like me and get a few BIOS files loaded on the Everdrive flash cart to load up onto any model Mega CD. I have several variations of the region free BIOS and loading a PAL BIOS while the Genesis is in NTSC mode seemed to work fine. Even loaded my NTSC game from the Europe spec BIOS.

Or just choose your favorite region free BIOS and have it burned to a standard sized 40 pin 128 Kb EEPROM. Or 256 if you want 2 BIOS with a switch. Even a 4 way setup with a 512 chip.

So if I am reading this right...

I can use my modded megadrive with any version of the SegaCD/MegaCD providing that I boot it in the right region settings and can patch the bios for any out of region games.

if this is the case I would buy a Sega CD and a 240v adapter as I want to play english games in 60hz.

    That should work.

But try to find the PAL model 2 if you can.

USA postage on a Sega CD is likely to be so expensive, I'm not sure it's worthwhile.
The US post office requires priority service or greater for international packages above 4LB total weight!

Don't forget about customs fees. It could be an issue depending on where you are, relative to the seller.

32X sold best here, by 32X standards. Almost anything 32X worth owning is cheapest US.

I had more 32x's but I sold them lol! I get the US 32X as it is a butt load cheaper.

Sorry but the model 1's are staying with me. The Sega CD took a bit to get going as it was bought as a wreck (listed as faulty....uh yea lol!) and the Mega CD belongs to this brute.

I could offload one of the Sega CD2's 2 have new lasers, the third I would be happy to sell but I need more time to do a full function test on it. It wasn't working to well, messed with it and got it going, just not 100% confident with it yet.

He has a megadrive MD - he can use the megakey function, no need to buy anything. Though he can buy a chip if he likes.

Gamegear is consolised (RGB out, etc)

lol! Sorry just being a smart ass.

Yes the one with the cart is a consolised Game Gear. This one had a dead screen but the main board was fine, so I relocated the cart to be a top loader. It only has composhit out, but has 2 controller ports (player 1 is to the mainboards button contacts, player 2 is to the EXT port). This is revision 1 of a consolised GG that I did, dunno 3yrs ago or something..? I am revisiting this when time allows (big fuckin lol! at that one).
