I got this image on one of my Mega Drive 2.
    VA0 PAL motherboard

    md2.jpg

Game is good, works on my other machines
Connector is good, resoldered and continuity checked
    Capacitors near video encoder replaced
    Traces seems good,
continuity checked where they looked bad

Same image with both RF and composite. Sound is good though.

Any ideas? Bad video encoder chip maybe?

Video encoder looks fine to me, maybe bad RAM?

    Could be, yes.
Any drop in replacement for these? 65256BLFT is a bit to expensive to make it worthwhile :/

Are those ram chips SMD or through hole on this model?

Before putting the blame on the RAM chip, you should check for broken traces and cold joints on the large SEGA ASIC.

Push the ASIC down gently and observe if pressure cause the corruption on the screen to change. If that's the case, you have cold joints on the solder.

    Thanks bart_simpson for the chip!
Unfortunately I confused the chips, the ram was through hole while I said it was SMD.

    No problem thou!
