Hi, I'm going to try n mod my Mega Drive tomorrow, by soldering the JP1-4 points to switches for the region mod. I was just wondering, does it really matter what wire you use? Cheers.
Not really, just don't use solid core wire as it'll cause you grief or wire thats too thin or too thick. Standard multicore cable will do the job.
Ultr@ expensive loud speaker cables I use old IDE and floppy cables for such things... I need to stock up some of the 80pin ATA cables, they're so sweet because of the nice thin wire
Eh? Solid core is fine - that's what modders have used for years - especially for mod chips. Just go to your local electronics store (Radio Shack, Maplin) and get a length of connector wire - stranded is probably best if you're worried it might break. Tell them you're soldering to some pads on a PCB and they'll probably recommend something. What you want is sometimes called equipment wire, something like 16/0.2 (16 strands 0.2mm thick). As Jamtex said, be realistic on thickness. Too thick and you'll have difficulty getting it on the pads. Too thin and it could break easily, or possibly might not be rated high enough (unlikely, though!).
I region modded my genesis 2 using some cheap wire I got off the back of an old plastic speaker I found in my closet. For a region mod I honestly don't think it matters what wire you use.
