Anyone has a clue what that is all about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62054&item=8126158483 ?? Sounds interesting though I still doubt it's legit (built in emulator?!) or am I wrong?
It definitely isn't me :smt043 But! LingJr sells some nice things and I don't doubt for a moment anything he sells isn't genuine as he is reputable (not just for high prices) but for genuine rare products. The karaoke bandwagon got pretty large in japan I really wouldn't be surprised if this was for real (wondermega, karaoke mega cd etc...)
I am doubting the koshaness of this item. The box just doesn't look very 'Sega' and there's no proper Sega logo from what I can see. Also, the box is covered in Capcom SF2 artwork. Then the machine, it doesn't take MD carts, must load games from CD. Sega were never gonna put 10games on a disk, otherwise they would have had to be extortionatelty expensive. And the Serial No. bit on the back has no Sega logo, and all the buttons on the front panel don't work, you have to use the remote. And again, no Sega logo on the manual. It does look quite well built, but again, all the front buttons don't work. So that's why I reckon this is a HongKong bootleg, just a veeeeery rare one no one has seen before. I mean, if this was a real Sega product, this would have got a Japanese release (and had a cart slot for MD games). Plus, the Laseractive was in existence and there was a MD module for that. A VCD player capable of runing MD roms and MCD games. If anyone can prove me wrong, go for it......
OMFG rayer: How I would love one of those! :smt022 It's got the exact same holographic sticker (the first photo) as the one on the Mega Drive 3 handheld, but nobody really knows if that one was a bootleg or not, so i'm not sure. It still looks damn sweet though. Topview (UMC?) also made one of the various VCD adapters for the PSOne I believe.
@LeGit: *lol* ...well, from what I can tell from his auctions, I'd believe him. I just came to think about it since the capability of playing "CDs with several games on them" was mentioned. As for the manual it has the SEGA brand on it... but nowadays that you can easily get SEGA style TTF (just like you can find all those neat compact disc logos) this isn't much of a proof IMO. @SuperFunkNinjaYoshiiKun: Do you think it could play MCD actually? If that was the case I'd want to go for it. Should be possible to repair such front panel... hmm... if only the shipping was less :-( BTW: the Topview > http://www.gonet.com.hk ?
Its quite clearly not official. There are probably 20 Mega Drive VCD player variants, not an uncommon sight for me. Also, its not an emulator, there is a MD clone inside with hardware to emulate ROM. Unfortunately, you cannot just simply make your own "game VCDs" (without reverse-engineering the discs yourself)
Gee guys Its a "TopView" product. Dont you guys known Topview? Its a mainland china company (not Hong Kong), another of its product I once saw is a super nes emulation on a hand grip pistol. It even bears nintendo name on it ;-) I wonder why barry ling includes such junk on his already pretty reputable rare stuffs ebay auction
A bootleg piece of crap that breaks. There was a shinco that also did megadrive roms. You can still find dvd players on ebay that play famicom (has two fami pads strange stuff) and megadrive.
