My problem is that Master System games aren't displaying on my TV when using my Mega Everdrive. I'm running it on a Sega CDX, going through a SCART to HDMI upscaler because my AV reciever won't pass through the video signal normally. I tried using old RCA cables straight to the tv and the games would show up though, so I know the SMS functionality on the Everdrive is at least working. Is this an Everdrive problem? Cable problem? SMS problem? Any suggestions?
SMS games use a smaller internal resolution. I guess it's possible your scaler doesn't understand the mode.
This doesn't make much sense though, it is still outputting the same vertical lines to the TV, and 15KHz scan rate.. Horizontal resolution doesn't matter in the analog domain. Not saying that isn't what's happening, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense. It's still 15KHz with the same vertical scan line count according to a oscilloscope.. (visible or not visible scan lines, doesn't matter, TV still gets the same signal).
I'd have to guess that starting up an SMS game has the Genesis/CDX output a different video signal? I'll probably just have to keep some old cables handy if I get an SMS itch. :\
I had an SMS and my AV receiver upscaled it just fine on it's own. I was using a Master Everdrive on that. Sadly, I sold it not ever thinking to try the SMS mode on the Mega Everdrive first.
SMS games, or SG-1000 games? The SG-1000 games "work" but use a mode of video that was dropped in the MD VDP, so you get black screens for SG-1000 games. You can HEAR the game running (music and sound effects), but the screen stays blank. If you know it's an SMS game, try using the RF or composite video to see if you get anything that way. If you do, then the problem is the scaler.
Yeah, I tried a bunch of other connections and work arounds, seems the problem starts when it hits the upscaler. Oh well, I'll just have to bust out the Master Gear or some old cables if I get desperate. Thanks for the input all.
