It's not legit and absolutely against the author's wishes. This guy just burns CD-Rs, prints artwork, and uses a *beta* version of the CD-ROM port/emulation of Mega Man for PC-Engine. A few other NES games are playable on PC-Engine through the same emulation library including Castlevania, Contra, and some others.

    Easy solution really.

    1) Buy it via PayPal (funded by a credit card) on eBay.
    2) After receipt, file a claim for a refund with eBay since the seller sent counterfeit/illegal/pirated goods.

It's against eBay policy to sell such things and eBay will both refund the money paid as well as file a strike against the seller.

After a few strikes, the seller's account will be closed.

It seems this seller deals in a lot of pirated junk.

His copies of Sapphire are also pirated.

This item is not aimed at a naiive amateur audience like SNES-repros, it is aimed at hardcore retrogaming fanatics. It says "unreleased" right in the title and the game in the auction comes with a "PC-Engine 25th Anniversary" box - how dumb do you have to be to believe this was an official PC-Engine release?

I like the effort and for $25 I'd totally buy it. It's a lovely case, manual and hotdamn, it's Rockman on PC-Engine!! Who cares if it's official or not? You can't buy an official Rockman on PCE anyways.

What's the "other pirated stuff"? He sells a lot of very rare to semi-rare items and they are lovely presented. I have no affiliation with this shop, but I can't see anything wrong there except that he seems to know his stuff and also happens to sell very well-known repros of 2 popular games. He takes his chance with the Sapphire, but he DOES say it's a counterfeit. If a seller says "please note that it says blablabla", I'd be alarmed if I were to spend hundreds of dollars on a rare game I want to own in a legitimate version.

It's not excatly about the unreleased or not. It's about an enthusiastic PCE homebrew fellow named malducci which made this version of rockman freely available for the PCE and the other guy just taking it of his page and puts it straight on a "even nicely arranged" CDR up for sale, without even asking anybody for its permission. It wasn't even a final release of the game.

I see, that does certainly suck. And the price is too high for an unofficial game on CDR... but as I said, as a collector, I would pay around $20 for such a nicely made custom product.

people freak out over nothing in an age of technology and wonder. Ebay is specifically for items that are rare and cant be found anywhere else. you could sell a pair of dirty socks on there if you wanted so who cares if someone slapped nude Mario pics on a cd with a soundtrack and called it Mario Rap wether modified/bootleg/pirated blah blah blah move on.

Also this being the main or one of the main sites related to piracy/bootleg/rare/demo/beta/proto blah blah websites out there I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't someone from this very site selling it,if it turns out to be true how sad for the ones bashing this seller when hes "one" of you. irony at its best.

I say if someone isn't bothering you don't bother them. Let the guy/girl sell their thing. Finding something rare on ebay is one thing, bashing them for what they have is another. Most people outside this site have no clue what a pc engine even is,much less that theres a bootleg mega man game so the only person who would buy it/get ripped off would be someone interested in rare items (means they would know what they are buying). no need to play captain save a hoe. If I went after every douche on ebay who was selling pirated/illegal blah blah blah stuff id be rich with all the cases id win. god is all knowing.
