It's definitely possible - I've used an efficient 9v 3A regulating power supply on my PAL stack (SMD, MCD2 and 32X), and it works very nicely. All I did was to cut off the original socket at the end (it was one of those PSUs with interchangable tips) and wire in three plugs to suit the three machines, ensuring correct polarity. With all three on and running I haven't noticed any dramas, with everything holding a steady +9v input voltage before hitting the regulators. Just don't cheap out on the copper when wiring in your plugs - I followed the same principle I use when wiring in JAMMA harnesses and use thick/decent copper to carry the voltage to ensure it isn't hampering the ability of the PSU to deliver enough power to the consoles.
