Alright now this being Assemblergames.com forums, many of you have already seen most of these before, since I've posted them in the past, but there are some that I haven't posted before. I got a new scanner so I thought I'd get some higher quality scans. Everything I've ever posted of my own before was taken with a digital camera, not the best way to do things but it's all I had until now. A few of these are still the old pics from the camera but most are actual scans. Also, some of these were released but I included them because they were either the first previews of these games or just interesting.

Joe Montana - unreleased (this version was horizontally scrolling and never came out)

First preview of Strider when it was 6-meg (and Sonic), released, released
    [IMG]

    Macress - ?? became Saint Sword ??

    Battle Mission - unreleased
    [IMG]

Land Buster, Vette! - unreleased, unreleased
    [IMG]

Shadow Dancer - released but with different title screen
    [IMG]

    Dando (aka Vasum) - unreleased
    [IMG]

    Moon Dancer - unreleased
    [IMG]

Phantasy Star II - released. I think this is EGM's first actual preview, though not their first-ever pictures of the game. By this time, Phantasy Star II has already been out in Japan for about a year, if you can believe release dates listed on websites, which say it came out there in March of 1989, before we even got the Genesis itself! The U.S. did not get II until March 1990, one month before Japan got III.

Thunder Force III - released (first preview) If there was ever a preview that sold me on a game before I tried it, THIS was it!

    Hard Yardage - unreleased
    [IMG]

Curse - released (only in Japan)

Spiderman ?? different title screen from released version ??

Sonic The Hedgehog - very first preview in EGM
    [IMG]

Blue Almanac - released in Japan only - was to be Star Odyssey in the west
    [IMG]

F-15 Strike Eagle II - I remember it was shown in early 1990. There was video of it at Toys R US! This preview is from mid 1990. I don't think this version came out, or at least not anytime that year or the following year. F-15 Strike Eagle II for Genesis seemed to disappear off the radar like Vette! but then in 1993 the game (perhaps the real Genesis port not footage of the computer version) showed up and was released.

Both Sonic previews are from EGM Number 13 - August 1990.
Given magazine lead times, I'd figure no later than July 1990, maybe/probably June 1990.
So about 1 year before release which was June 1991.

Wow, Sonic looked a bit weird from that picture. His arms look like twigs.

    My pleasure.

There's probably a few more to come, here & there, as and when I find them, although I've already got most of the best stuff here, already.

Alright, some more ^__^ You finally get to see how Moon Dancer was previewed with other games.

EGM Number 10 - May 1990: The International Outlook segment that month had just Mega Drive games. So instead of doing individual scans I'm just giving you the whole thing. ^__^ All of these games got released ( I believe), except for Moon Dancer. Also one of the screens in the Vermillion preview, the middle one, is wrong, I think that's from Sorcerian. Oh, and, I guess we were lucky to get Batman on Genesis in the U.S.

If anyone has more screens of Moon Dancer from Japanese magazines (or anywhere) please post them.

The screenshot is most likely a mock-up, not an actual gameplay vid. It was common for an artist to make a mockup of random sprites on screen when there was nothing to take pictures of (or because it was difficult).

Moon Dancer development seems to have been a joint Sega/Beep venture

They weren't kidding about Dando's heavy "Legendary Axe" connections...the main character looks almost exactly the same right down to the weird slouching posture and faceless design.

Seemed like it would have had some more RPG-like elements to it.

    True.

Yet doesn't Legendary Axe take after Jaleco's The Astyanax (arcade game)?
They're both 1989, haven't researched which one came first....oh wait... correction Makyō Densetsu / Legendary Axe came first for PC-Engine in 1988.

Found a couple of unreleased stuff while scanning adds in EGM for guardiana.

    Darkseed (sega-cd):

    Star Odyssey:

The topic reminded me this one (sorry, no scan coz takes me forever to plug in my old scanner lol):
This preview made me buy shinobi III when it was released, I clearly remember "dang ! you fight with tigers ! awesome !". Well, as you know, no tigers in the final version lol. Btw, the magazine presents the game as a mega-cd game to be released by the end of december.... when the magazine was actually published in december !

Two screenshots out of three not from the final release, wrong system quoted only a couple of weeks before the supposed game release (which was finally released 7 months after) ? Wtf ?

Wasn't Sol Deace the name for the Cartridge version only? I know that got a US release but not in Japan or Europe. We all got the Mega CD version. Same with Earnest Evans.
