Apparently tapping the headphone jack produces noise with the slide dealy that adjusts volume output. Not surprised honestly given mechanical bits like that typically do create noise.

On the flip side tapping the L/R channels directly from the chip yields signals that seem to demand an amplifier circuit of some sort to be terribly usable. Plus you need a mixing cable if you ever intend to use it with a MegaCD as the connector between the MD and the MegaCD lacks some pins for audio on the MD side of things.

Can't confirm this myself but it sounds vaguely familiar.

Couldn't you tap the audio right before the slider? The headphone jack doesn't have true stereo anyway.

headphone output gives "true" stereo, though there's some crosstalk involved but that's normal. It is still 2 separate channels there.

Really? Then how come when playing Sonic 2 with headphones plugged in doesn't have the stereo rings pickup effect? (alternating from left to right) Edit: I'm using a MD1

Blimey back in the early 90s I had a headphone jack to Stereo speaker adapter for my Megadrive. I didn't care about stereo sound (I mean c'mon I was like 10 years old) but I did want it to be loud so I bought the lead purely just to have it out of my hifi speakers. I actually found the cable just the other day, I remember it developed a loose connection somewhere, though I can't find my Megadrive to test it.

Given the ease of finding such leads I'd have figured it is almost pointless modding for stereo out?

No, you misunderstood what I said.

You have a lead COME OUT OF the SCART plug and go to two phono.

    Look here:

    http://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/...a-Genesis-1-stereo-RGB-AV-scart-cable-TV-Lead

See how they have MD to SCART, plus a connector going to the headphone socket? Well, what if you cut off that headphone connector, then put two phono plugs on.... and then put two phono sockets out the back, like you said? Stereo out of the Megadrive, through the SCART cable, into the TV... that's what! ;-)

    Ah ok gotcha. Sorry.

Well my second MD turned up and after doing the usual mods and changing the LED to a blue one I decided to leave the audio well alone for now. I have a set of very good PC speakers behind my TV which I use for my Macbook so I'm using them via the headphone socket for now.

I may go back to it.
