Megadrive stereo output jacks make buzz on clear screens

I modified my model 1 Megadrive with stereo RCA outputs for audio, but I am getting a loud buzzing sound whenever there are bright elements on screen. For example, Sonic 2's opening screens.

What could be wrong here? Could it be the ground signal?
Output via the headphone jack doesn't do this.
