I've noticed there seem to be some Genesis games which simply do not work with the Megakey functionality. As I'm sure KRIKzz is a busy fellow I thought it might be helpful to build up a list of which games do not work with the Megakey, so he may fix things in the next OS update. So far I can confirm the following not working on my US model 1 genny: Golden Axe III (Japan) - 'Cart cannot be used in NA message' Mickey Mania - Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse (Japan) - 'Cart designed for NTSC systems' message I think it is worth noting that Everdrive reports the Rom Region on both of these games as MULTI, not NTSC Japan. I'll update this list as I test more games. Also I know KRIKzz stated he could not test on Nomad hardware, 2.4 everdrive with os23 on a Nomad does not appear to allow Megakey to turn on.
Sorry to dig up the dead, Derek, but what's the deal with the megakey? Finally got around to messing with a newer ED I ordered 2 months ago and it seems a surprising amount do not utilize it. Hah, Golden Axe III was also one of the first ones I tried, too... Was the megakey even given any updates or support from him? He seems to have diverted all attention to the Mega ED (which really isn't such a bad thing)... Perhaps just resort to region change through software?
megakey does not work for some games because they have wrong region mark in header, or if they used alternate method of region detection, for example if game use vdp control port instead of region register for detection. now i have nomad. i check megamey and and can say that one cart can use megakey on nomad, anoyher can't. probably signal from nomad's asic is too powerfull, more powerfull than from megakey buffer (74hc573)
Thanks for filling me in, Krikzz. I had an inkling it had something to do with the headers or ROM names. Do you recommend any particular software you use for patching regions? By the way, the Mega EverDrive looks killer so far, just saw the recent videos. Do you have an ETA? Congrats on your success with everything!
make a hint for megakey is very easy. need to open rom by hex editor and set one byte. offset 0x1F0. "U" ntsc usa, "J" japan ntcs, "E" pal euro. mark should match to game region. also possible to change this byte by build in gg cheater, but need to calculate code first i have no eta for mega ed. probably winter or spring
