Megaman Legends 3 (Rockman Dash 3) was announced on September 29, 2010 set to be released for the Nintendo 3DS. The game was announced to be cancelled on July 18th, 2011. Capcom had the game in a more open development system known as the capcom Devroom which allowed anyone with interest to interact with the developers and help shape the game. A prototype version of the game was planned to be released on the 3DS eShop featuring 10 missions and would be considered a prologue for the actual game. The prototype would have let the player play as Barrett and was to gauge how much interest there was in the title and would base weather Capcom went ahead with development on the full game. Unfortunately Capcom pulled the plug before even releasing the prototpye leaving a large group of fans upset and discouraged. The more vocal group has formed a facebook group called 100,000 Strong For Bringing Back Megaman Legends 3. The group is quite vocal and has been covered by many gaming media sources. The game was being developed in Capcom's MT Mobile Framework. Legends 3: Prototype KNOWN information Klickelan Island One major element that we do know is where most if not all of the game takes place. Klickelan is a decent-sized place, easily recognizable due to its large ruin formation that towers over everything around. The heart of the island is Teomo City, a place bustling with diggers, businesses, and bike gangs known as Rebel Riders. The Rocket As of Legends 2, Megaman was trapped up on Elysium. In the Prototype Version it's clear that Roll is pouring all her effort into constructing a rocket to go rescue him. There's even a Rocket Research & Development Laboratory. The Rebel Riders Teomo City is plagued by youth gangs collectively referred to as Rebel Riders. They cruise the streets on their Motorhorses, hovering motorcycles, with little regard for society. It's uncertain whether these gangs, other than the prominent Bright Bats, would have had much presence beyond the missions available in the Prototype Version. The Bright Bats In Megaman's absence, a new hero has arisen named Barrett. Often accompanied by his sidekick Aero, he "leads" a gang known as the Bright Bats, and rides his air bike around Teomo City in a number of missions available in the Prototype Version. He also has a wide variety of attack skills and abilities. Barrel = Barrett? In the Prototype Version, Roll mentions that Barrel has been missing for a couple weeks. Speculation has it that the reason is because Barrel is actually Barrett. The two do share some visual design elements and have similar names. This was never confirmed however, and among the limited info we were given there seems to be just as much evidence against the connection as for it... Klicke Lafonica Deep within the ruins Barrett learns of something called the Klicke Lafonica, "The Fire of Creation," presumed to be a major plot point for the story. According to Chriss Hoffman it seems that the finished game would have focused heavily on this mysterious item, with the the Caskets, the Bonnes, and the Bright Bats all out to get it first. Legends 3: Prototype Mission List Trouble In Paradise This opening mission has you battling reaverbots in Teomo City as they fall from the sky. Barrett & Friends: This mission introduces players to Teomo City, Diggers, and the concept of Rebel Rider youth gangs. It also introduces the members of the Bright Bats gang, Barrett, Aero, Max, Pic, and Grill. Late-Night Race This is a Motorhorse racing contest through the streets of Teomo City. One Bullheaded Rival A rather easy boss battle against the Roast Beefs gang leader, Bullbreath. Take Me Somewhere - Barrett the Chauffer You must drive Aero around to various locations, including the park and a place called the "Gate of Frontiers." Operation Anti-Riders Police chief Gonzo Goodwin attacks the Bright Bats using a mecha called the Anti Rider Crusader 1, built by Roll. Rocket R&D Fundraising Venture into the ruins and obtain a refractor for Roll to use in the rocket. Yes, Miss Tron Retrieve Tron’s missing Servbots within the time limit. What’s in the Box? A ruin exploration mission. You learn of a treasure called the Klicke Lafonica, a potentially major plot point. Bonne Family Showdown A challenging battle against the fan-created Donner Wels mecha. Characters: The Caskets Megaman Roll Barrel Data The Bright Bats Barrett Aero Grill Pic Max The Bonnes Tron Teisel (confirmed playable in prototype) Bon Servbots The Roast Beefs Bullbreath Two other unnamed unannounced characters You can view an article on the game from Nintendo Power here More information on the game can be found here If anyone has more information on the prototype or anything else, I'd LOVE to hear. I was absolutely crushed when the game was cancelled (MML is one of my favorite game series of all time) and this prototype was going to be my reason for purchasing a 3DS. If anyone somehow has access to the prototype please also contact me EDIT: If a mod/admin can change the thread title to add that it is not a release...realized I don't want to confuse/upset anyone Edit2: Here's a trailer I found for the Prototype by Capcom prior to it's cancellation and since I can't add more then one video to the post here is a video of the Megaman Legends 3 NYCC panel And here is a video from Nintendo with 9 minutes of footage straight from the prototype
Even if it was released there ( as you know im sure) would still be no way to play is as of now. I bought a 3DS because of this game alone and the entire community around this game was nothing but spectacular. Im still raging Capcoms decision to can this.
I was more hyped about MMU than MML3 but was still pretty disappointed with their decision to cancel the game especially after all the hard work the community put into it along with the promise of a demo which was literally weeks away from release.
Yeah I realize I made the thread title confusing. Sorry about that. Requested a thread title change to avoid confusion. I just figured there was no information on the game here, as far as I could find so I figured since it's the game I was most disappointed in a cancellation I'd make a post with as much info on it as I could gather. Yeah this is the most disappointing thing to me. I want a release or some form of it out but with no current way to play it I'm extremely saddened. I too was going to buy a 3DS on the release of the prototype but ended up never getting around to it since the cancellation. I'm also still furious with Capcoms idiocy in cancelling not only this but every other Megaman project they had going on. I was upset with both cancellations but especially with Legends 3. I LOVED Legends 1 & 2. And especially since I'm convinced the prototype was completed. I really thought after 100,000 for bringing back MML3 hit the target goal Capcom would respond and release at least the prototype but yet...nothingness I'm still idiotically hoping they'll come back and be like "we're bringing it back for 3DS and VITA!!!"
Have no fear, an upcoming faux 8-bit remake of the prototype is here! http://www.gamnesia.com/news/mega-m...-8-bit-remake-capcom-staff-aiding-in-creation ...oh, fuck.
Pure speculation. The games do, however, share the same engine: MTFramework. Seth Killian spoke about this some time ago: http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_cap...es-to-megaman-legends-3?post_num=52#519926685
I find it kind of funny how people are bashing this project in the comments. From what I gather Capcom as a whole is not backing this project. It's being made by fans with the help of a select few from Capcom who wanted to see the game done, in some form. I mean I'm just as pissed at Capcom's slow brutal murdering of Megaman as the next guy but I'm still interested and excited for this project nonetheless. Maybe that's wrong of me -_-
You know how severely ticked-off Capcom employees must be to back a homebrew slap-in-the-face like that? It seems the only people more annoyed than the fanbase that the blue bomber is being butchered are the ones that gave him life.
I'm surprised Capcom isn't reacting to their employee's helping the fan project. But yeah all the employees and creators seem real upset both with Legends 3 cancellation and all the other abuse Megaman is getting from Capcom
I would only see problems for the Capcom employees if the fangame makers were trying to sell their game, which isn't the case (and to give Capcom proper credit, they've never been dicks about free fan projects AFAIK). My biggest problem with this project is the overdone (yes, overdone) faux 8-bit style; the MM Legends series was barely anything like the classic games (not in a bad way), but this game is just a regression to the NES style rather than a tribute/homage, and as a result, will feel pretty much nothing like a Legends game should. Also, as a pixelart nazi, I can't stand the fact that other than the main character sprite edited from classic Megaman's sprite, nothing looks like it's from an NES Megaman game; if they wanted to go for that style, they should've at least tried harder to make everything else adhere to that style like MM9/10's graphics did. I mean, I appreciate the fact that fans seem to be doing more for MML3 than Capcom ever did since Inafune left and called them out on their bullshit*, but I just wish there was a little more soul to this project. Dig? *which we all know is the real reason Capcom canceled MML3 and has been crapping on Megaman since
I'd guess all the sprite art differs anywhere from slightly to dramatically to avoid legal issues. Just because they never pursued anything in the past doesn't make it okay to blatantly use MM himself.
since I'd rather not make a new thread does anyone know of any Legends 1 or 2 or MOTB alphas/betas/protos that exist? Either ones that have been released or are privately held? I'm just curious if any exist. I have the Legends 2 demo disk that came with MOTB but I'm curious if there is anything else?
I second this notion, my greatest interest for a Legends proto is this Mega Man Neo prototype that was showcased at a Capcom booth at E3 in 1997.
damn I've never seen the Mega Man Neo proto before! Although from that very short video it looked nearly identical to Legends but I'm sure they had huge differences. I'd love to see more. Or play it if it was released. Thanks for sharing this! Edit: Also updated the OP with new videos of the MML3 Proto
I was really pulling for this game during development. Thanks for all the information, it's well documented.
