I sent many emails to capcom in ragrd of this game and have not received a response from them, very irritating. My Little brother wants to play megaman X5 on our family PC, the game installs and all is well until he want to play. The game simply exits once it attempts to change resolutions or whatever it does to init the video. No error messages. Tried with the XP patch, without, even cracked, changing to every level of Direct X accelleration and numerous compatability modes. Any ideas? It at least sarts on the P133 with win2k but its hardly playable. Speaking of which the card in the family PC is an all in wonder 9600 and the 133 is some generic vid card. Any help or suggestions at all would be welcome, he wont stop crying until he can play it and i cant go out of my way to build a new pc capable of playing, mainly for money issues. Thanks in advance.

WinXP has a known bug with refresh rates. I don't know if the "XP Patch" you mentioned fixes that, but if it doesn't then it's probably the reason of this error. If you can change the refresh rate of the game before the error, then try changing it to 60 hz. If you can't, you can try using RefreshForce or some program like that. The Omega Driver for ATI comes with RefreshForce

I dont think running Win2k on a P133 is a good idea in the first place :smt043

(I`m sorry that I dont have a solution to your problem, what I`d do is scout the ever-bountiful dumpster for discarded PCs, nowadays I find Celeron 400s in there :smt033 )

nada... Tried about about a million modes, the XP patch was so that you could use the games cd in any cd drives without having to have an install for each drive lol. as for win2k on the 133, lets just say he thinks newer is better and hed put xp opn it if he could. Remind me to dress as a ninja and decapitate the head of capcom customer support... they dont even list a phoen number to call. -_-

Did you try RefreshForce or something similar? I'm pretty sure the problem is the refresh rate
You can also put your desktop refresh rate at 60hz just to see if the game works. BTW, refresh rates of less than 72hz are bad for the eyes.

I tried refresh force and tried it at 60, 75, 80 and 85. Nothing worked. Though my monitor told me it was always running at about 60hz, but windows said otherwise. I dont know which to belive as i saw a difference in refresh rate after it switched.
