Hi all, I made a remix of Chaos Temple this morning, and megaupload were fucking with me. But anyway I was tempted to give the link in Karstens thread, but I thought "WDK you need your own thread where you can get beatings and constructive criticism. So without out further ado here is Chaostemple AKtestcatpurringtechnoremix And if you are wondering why the remix has a strange name. Then read the info. Please give me some feedback. And I have saved the project , since I don´t feel it is really that done, since after all, it is a test remix of the melody.
Not this time Karsten, but tell me what you think of my remix. Since this time the megaupload link works.
ok as soon i get home and i have a few mins free. have you tought of joining vgmix? they give hosting space for free and many extras!
Karsten: vgmix is a cover version site, just like overclocked remix is. And neither of them are really remixing the melodies, they are making covers/tributes of the songs and melodies of the game tunes. I am a remixer. Not a cover artist or for that matter a tribute artist. If vgmix hasn´t changed their view upon what is remixing vs. cover/tribute making.
since i'm the first one to vote it's too easy to understand what i voted for first of all i hope you won't get offended, but i don't like it. I'll tell you what i think, but keep in mind that i'm not an expert at all. 1) you samples are BAD. i'm sure you can find better around, else i can help you. they look damn MIDI. 2) The volume is reeeeally of. the "beats" are too high in volume. 3) maybe i'm wrong, but you are a beginner as much i am or even more, and that can be seen by the remix switching on and off so brutally... try to find a way to dissolve the beats into the theme. 4) since i think i understood your style, i guess that adding quite high echo to the "sleeping" track might help, as would help working on the theme instrument to make them more on tune with the beats. Also experiment with some reverb too 5) search for help from experts. I'm no expert, but with the help i got from people at vgmix i've improved dramatically. try to listen at the remix i posted now, my final for saying so and compare it with my first! 0_o by the way, what programs, sounds, SF2 files are you using? i can help you a little out. karsten ps: don't get offended or discouraged! our first attempt always seems to us great, but in time we get so much better! look at my mixes! pps: i'm waiting for hearing your next effort!
Please don't get offended but I think it needs a lot of work yet. As karsten said, the beats volume is really high. You should lower it a bit because the sound gets distorted... Also you should work with the samples, there are really good free sample kits around, you should give it a search. About the tempo, it's me or the beats and the instrument speeds are different? Maybe you shoud give FL Studio a try, I tried both and in my opinion FL Studio is way more powerful and more friendly to start than Acid. In my experience I can't learn to do stuff like that from other people, I believe that if I learn it from years of practice I'll make my own style (and to tell the truth, my early material was way worse than yours). Anyway if you need some help I'll be glad to give you a hand with the really few I know, otherwise there're tons of forums where people will be glad to help you. EDIT: I just uploaded a demonstration of some of the FL Studio capabilities, you should check it out. I didn't make the song, I just took a random midi, in this case Constant Motion by Dream Theater (nothing of my stuff is finished yet) and put the instruments and effects, it's awesome what you can do in 10 minutes with it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JJI5YGJN
lol ok, well I will make a new one for you guys. But it is because I only had one melody track, and not two of the same. But that is easily fixed. By the way, Karsten if you are interested in listening to older remixes from me. Then check this thread out. And it looks like Paulo as usual is pointing out he doesn´t like my mixes. But that is nothing new, but fuck that. I am not making music to him, I am making remixes out of love and fun when it comes to it. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14944&highlight= But sure I will try to make the beats lower in volume. But the rythm shall be out of key. aka, the beats should be a bit faster than the music. And I use acid, because I like to use it. And the socalled remixes I have heard of that melody has been shite a lot. And I would love somebody took their fingers out of their arse, and took the original melody Like I did. And made a trancey remix. But untill now I have heard zero versions of that. Since this melody is smashing great, but my remix maybe sucks for you guys and that is fine And as I said, I don´t feel I am done with it. Not even now, it is a testremix. But my cat did jump up and purred while I was remixing. So I will send out a test two of the same remix. And no I am not offended at all.
by the way, killemall, would you give a "look" at my final version of the mix? you seem quite experienced, so i could use your help too.
by the way, i suggest you downloading the "musica theoria v2" or later soundfont. also i think you should at least try to use fruity loops... great results in little time, trust me!
If you mention Fruity Loops one more time, then I will swear I will get fruity with you, and neither of us will enjoy it. I bloody hate Fruity Loops. Anyway here is test2 of the remix, and I really did try to lower the volume of the beats, so if it works. Then great, if it doesn´t. Screw it, but I am not done with the melody yet. And by the way, I voted "it is my style", because I am neutral, even though I really do like the remix.
People, I didn´t try to rape the theme, since I love the theme too much . And Karsten, I don´t use midi as my effects, I use real wav samples. that I did download free , long ago. Even though it was from a P2P network I downloaded them from. But I am downloading the soundfont right now.
musica theoria? it'll help you SO MUCH! trust me, waste an hour trying to fit the best samples and you'll be able to tell the difference, really!
The beginning and the end are great, the middle section just don't sound right, the differing tempos of the beat and melody just don't work. I'd like to say that they almost create a style of their own by repeadetly failing to gel (which may be the point) but im not 100% certain that it works.
Karsten, I finally found out how to use the soundfont, but that was after I found out it was compressed with sfark, and believe me. That is just crazy. But now I am using it. And it is a good soundfont with my XFI.
