So the odd one out among 5 SNK games I got Melty Blood Act Cadenza as one of my first PS2 Imports.

I'm a fan of the Tsukihime anime and all and the entire cast of the game is in a mugen game I compiled but the AI was broken.

I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I wouldn't mind checking out some other dojin fighters on PC eventually.

are any played in tournaments (i've seen melty blood tournament videos)

Ah welcome to the world of Melty Blood, easily one of my favourite fighters. So yeah as you know, MB tournements are pretty big, you might want to check out some of the arcadia tournaments to see how deep the game can get.

As for other fighters, there are small online tournaments for some games. I have been playing MB online and there have been some small arranged matches. Outside that I have not heard of any matches in the real world that are open to all, I may be wrong. Thing is, so many dojin games are too broken to be played in a tournament without gentleman agreements being made first!

But please don't let that stop you from getting into the dojin scene, MB is the tip of the iceberg.

What are some of the others? I only know about EFZ and QOH the former being the only one I have any interest in.

Also I'll be getting a lap top eventually which sadly will most likely run Vista, will I have trouble getting them to work?

Give 東方萃夢想 a shot, I think this is a pretty good innovative 2D fighter.

Also Glove on Fight is pretty addictive.

Fate Sword Dance is very good - ONLY if you get the latest patch! The first release was a right mess and they really got the standard up as they patched it.

Basically those are good starting points check -

Himeya's listing of available fighters. There are some 3D ones in the mix but even those have 2D style gameplay.

Enjoy! It is great getting into Dojin games as you suddenly realise that the 2D fighter scene is well and truly alive.

As for vista, can't say. Only my work PC has vista on it, my laptop of Dojin is still good ol XP. I imagine most of the new ones should be programmed with vista in mind.
