So I've heard about this special edition Men In Black Playstation, and supposedly it's really rare. But other than that I can't seem to find any other information on it. Hell, this is the only image I've really seen of the console:

Anyone know the story behind this thing? How many were made, where could you buy them, what do they go for now, etc?

Don't know about the console, but the game was utter shit. Would like to know more about this too!

That game was pretty poor. I have one MIB game on the PS, I think it might have been the second one. I think Meltdown was in the title? I'd love to have this console, though. MIB was a pretty entertaining movie.

I have seen one on this forum before in someone's collection thread but that was a few years ago. Sadly using the search function on here returns too many results to find it. I'm sure there'll be another owner on here who'll come forward and help out at some point.

The controller/memcard ports seem to be unpainted, which I feel would not be the case if it was something official since it looks a bit crap. Maybe a one-off paintjob? I wouldn't lose any sleep about that console until at least a second photo shows up.

Too bad you can't really tell if the controller has a ferrite bead or not. Could've given a few hints on the authenticity of the set. The movie release date would put it in SCPH-1080 territory, between the bead-less SCPH-1010 and the dual shocks.

It was a custom paint job done for the movie release or as part as a competition (iirc it was a magazine give away, possibly EGM). It's not an official release per se but still quite desirable to collectors, much the same as some of the painted Dreamcasts you see around.

    Here's this:

This site has a different picture (way small) and says it is a US release:
    http://www.consolecolors.com/sony.html

Here's another PAL version showing it was sold with a box.
    http://www.millon-associes.com/html/fiche.jsp?id=4060821&np=21&lng=fr&npp=20&ordre=&aff=2&r=
However, it should be pointed out it comes with the same autographed framed game, which doesn't sound like it was original to the system but was included in the ebay auction in 2009.

MIB logo isn't even straight. Kind of poorly done.

Pretty weird, especially the PAL version because it had an official box/game combo and all, which makes me think there's at least a handful out there. But then again if it was just a retail limited release console I doubt it would've come with a signed game, which leads me to this:

By any chance anybody have a magazine scan with info about this if it was in fact a give away?

Hah, I talked to one of the higher-ups involved in the development of this game. He seemed pretty proud of it and his office was decked out in MiB stuff. I didn't have the heart to tell him the game was awful. Super nice guy, though.

I heard they are rarer then debugging stations or were made in fewer numbers, is that true?

Read this http://www.gamesniped.com/2009/06/17/men-in-black-playstation-one/ it was linked above.

"I believe this to be the only MIB Black PlayStation in existence"
"It is one of a kind"

I would say its rarer then the debug stations.

Problem with the company custom consoles is they are unofficial and are really just high end color mods.

They didn't even disassemble the controller port and paint the bezel.
