    Hi!

So I decided to mod my PAL Mega Drive and SNES with 60 Hz and region switches. The Mega Drive project went fine, but I've screwed up somewhere with the SNES mod.

I completed the mod for both switches, but when I tried to power on the console I discovered it doesn't function. No power LED, nothing.

This is the mod I followed:
    http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/snes-5060hz-switch-with-lockout-switch/

I know that the fuse by the power regulator is said to be the usual suspect but I stuck a multimeter on that and it seems to still be operational. With the SNES powered on, a current flows across the fuse.

I'm a bit unsure what to try in order to fix my beloved console. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Got some pics of the mod you did? Maybe a bridge somewhere or didn't connect everything back up properly?

you cant measure current how you describe. Just use continuity mode or resistance if your meter lacks it to test the fuse.

Simple question: Have you accidentilly pulled out the flat cable of the controller panel?
If not, some pictures of your installation would be very helpful.

Ok sorry for the delay in responding, thanks for the suggestions guys :)

Well I've almost solved my problems. Firstly, it looks like the fuse on the console blew, so I need to buy a replacement, but for the time being I've just bridged the gap with a wire. I desoldered and resoldered all my wiring, and managed to get both the lockout switch and 50/60Hz switch working. Unfortunately, something has gone wrong when I put the casing back together as I now have an intermittently flickering screen at 60Hz. It goes full screen for a split second, but then pops to something looking like standard PAL, or even worse, the screen gets popped vertically downwards, with lots of flickering. I discovered that turning the console upside down results in it functioning properly. I'm guessing a connection has come loose. I hope it's not a connection to the leg of one of the chips as I have covered them with hot glue for stability.

I also discovered that Mario Kart flickers every so often during gameplay, which was sad as this game was the main reason I wanted to do the mod. Does anyone happen to know if the Japanese Mario Kart will work properly when played on my modded PAL console at 60Hz? Or is the only option to buy a Super Famicom?

Use some Isopropyl on the hot glue and it will come off very easily. If you need to get it off that is.

Just an update on this.....I managed to get the mod working. I had a dodgy switch and a loose connection. Somewhere in the process of performing the mod I've blown the fuse though, so a new one is currently on it's way to me.

Is your copy of Mario Kart PAL? The PAL version is optimised for 50hz so it will not run properly at 60hz. A Japanese copy should run fine at 60hz on your PAL SNES.

Can confirm that the PAL version of Super Mario Kart is a bit wonky when run at 60Hz, your best bet is to pick up an NTSC copy of the game (either American or Jap will work fine as they were designed both for 60Hz). An American copy will require you to widen the cart slot on your SNES owing to the different shape of the cart.

If you like, follow my guide on how to make a repro of the American copy of the game - you can use your PAL or a Jap copy of the game as the donor, that way you don't have to physically mod your SNES.

Yeah my Mario Kart was 50Hz, and I had issues with it, but I have since bought a Japanese version. I haven't yet tested it because I've been waiting for a replacement fuse for my SNES, but that arrived today so I'm hoping to get it installed tonight and test MK.
