Phantom Pain came out a few weeks ago, People love it but want more and we know we won't get more given Konami being determined to out asshole Nintendo. Anyways I picked up a shit ton of games this weekend but I also grabbed the Metal Gear HD Collection to play catch up while I wait for TPP's price to go down and used copies to pop up. Co currently I'm playing Peace Walker and 3 which I have not played in their entirety yet. 3 I got stuck on that first boss fight with Ocelot. Peace Walker I hadn't played before at all and..........right now I'm stuck on that 2nd tank boss fight. But I really REALLY like Peace Walker. I've played Most of 2 but have not played MGS1 or 4 and I probably won't get to 4 until I beat 3. Haven't played Rising either and I haven't touched Ground zeroes. Also to be perfectly honest I'm not sure if I'm getting GZs or TPP on PS3 or PS4 yet. So with the series pretty much dead now what do you all think it's legacy will be? More so what's Kojima going to do next? (Crosses fingers somethingwithshinjimikamisomethingwithshinjimikami) I think they're interesting, 2 got all kinds of fucked up. I liked 3 from what I've played of it (Why does Big Boss find mushrooms disgusting but Rat edible?) I mentioned I really like Peace Walker but I'm stuck. I don't think video games will ever reach the level of Fucked up MGS 2 got. But I could be wrong. I don't think we'd have stealth games quite the same way we do now with out it. Even the Last of us owes alot to MGS. I have no idea what could be next for Kojima. I doubt he'll go the Kickstarter route because Kojima never does what we expect him to.
Ahh, Peace Walker was so good. Anyways, if you are having issues with a certain boss go back and play earlier levels or get online and play co-op (If it's an option still). Between that and filling mother base with personnel you'll get better weapons to work with and eventually between figuring out patterns and better weapons it will become a breeze.
I've been a lover of the series since the first Metal Gear Solid. Got Phantom Pain for PS3 on day one (not because of the pointless day one edition; just because I was planning to get it anyway). It was only recently that I played the very first Metal Gear, and it's funny to see how the series hasn't really changed since then on a fundamental level. Overall, it remains one of my favorite franchises simply because it has managed to keep itself relevant without compromising what made the games great in the first place (as opposed to say, Resident Evil/Silent Hill). Metal Gear Solid 2 more or less perfected the gameplay, I think. Everything after that was just icing, really. The camouflage of MGS3 was great, and was featured in a few iterations after that, but ultimately it didn't actually change the game that much. MGS3 Subsistence also added the standard third person camera, but again, that didn't really change how we played the games, just gave a new perspective. Metal Gear Solid 4 probably remains the most polished one for me. It's unfortunate that there isn't more gameplay time, but for what is there, it's great. I only wish that they'd release a "subtance/subsistence" version of that game, because I'd love to play VR missions and the like with MGS4's gameplay. Hopefully Kojima does more games. I would love to see him team up with Shinji Mikami and make a horror game after seeing The Evil Within and P.T. Having said that, there could be serious power struggles with two majorly creative directors.
Resident Evil 4 is one of the games I picked up this weekend, haven't even started it yet due to all the Metal Gear goodness. I love the VR missions. The "Tech" wasn't there for 3 but I'd love something comparable. The only thing I've done in 2 since I got the HD Collection was play VR missions. Bummer the PS3 version of HD Collection doesn't have the Ape Escape extra or the Skateboarding minigame in 2
I actually bought Evolution Skateboarding after playing the skateboarding minigame, because that's where it comes from. I'd recommend it if you want to skate as Solid Snake/Raiden in more areas than just the big shell (for example, the North Pole). It was released for PS2 and Gamecube. VR missions really are great. I've been replaying them myself recently on the original Xbox release of MGS2 Substance. I've always thought it would have been awesome if there had been a Metal Gear game that let you create your own VR missions, considering the simplicity of the environments.
Metal Gear is a great franchise. Played MGS2, then MGS3 and 4, then MGS. I have just begun PW and I've never played GZ entirely. I think I'll try TPP. To me it seems there are three distinct MG series: MG, MG2, MG:Ghost Babel - The 2D ones - great games back in the day and still enjoyable. I guess I'll really play MG2 to the end someday. MGS, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4 - The original MGS - MGS is great. MGS2 feels outdated, but it's still great. MGS3 is awesome. MGS4? Mindfuck. All great games. MGS: PW, MGS:GZ, MGS: TPP - The Peace Walker series - Feels somewhat redesigned to add the 'social' element that today's games can't live without. I don't really like it, but it's somewhat an improvement on the gameplay. Keeping the classics alive can be difficult, but Kojima seems to be doing it very well. Btw, Fox Engine is really awesome. It's really compact and optimized, and runs like a gazzelle!
MGS3 was such a better written story than MGS2, but I just hated how "whiny" it came across and the poor relationship representation between Snake and the Boss. It put me off from ever playing Peace Walker in the first place (even though I owned it on the HD collection) and I only played once I tried to start GZ and realized that I needed the plot from it. I'm glad I did too, as I would put it near the top of the list of the MGS games.
I just finished Metal Gear Solid, and it was less daunting than I thought. Hideo Kojima and his crew put a lot of tension into this game that it psyched me out for years. Now I've started MGS2, and guess what? I'm constantly getting spotted and killed over and over. I have got to chill out and learn to play it cool as I see in the videos. Throwing mercenaries into the water? hells yes.
That would be amazing. Sign me up. Loved MGS, but for some reason I just really connected with 2. I was one of the few people who actually liked and felt for Raiden. The boss battles were great and I enjoyed the interplay between the characters. I think I played it at least 3 times through on the XBOX. I own 3 and 4, but unfortunately haven't played much of them. I got Ac!d whenever it came out, and despite it not being the same formula I had some fun with it. I think I also have Portable Ops around somewhere. Thanks to Seph, I have The Phantom Pain for PC, but need to play Ground Zeroes before I plunge into that.
