That sucks but the fact alone that there was an internal debate about this at Konami (being such a top level franchise) and it wasn't stamped out at first sight gives me hope that the industry is starting to look at such games in a new light and see the possibilities they bring. That he also managed to get Hayter involved and all that other support was also damn impressive.

I've said for a long time that both Metal Gear and Solid are prime candidates for a remake and it looks like this will at least push Konami to do it themselves.

I think this would be awesome. If they're working to shut it down hopefully that means they'll be investing their own interest in it. But hey, they could just be protecting their IPs.

Yeah, maybe they have their OWN plans for a Metal Gear remake somewhere down the line.

Whoever made the petition seems awfully entitled:
It reads as if this game was never made, and as if it is impossible to play. MSX2's aren't THAT rare, and yes the game is expensive, but that's the cost of doing business in our hobby.

...and shhhh don't tell Konami, but there is even a translation patch.

Besides, there's always the NES version :p

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Konami isn't doing so hot as of recent, so any way to capitalize on a popular and well-recieved IP they'll likely take. They're very lucky they have control over Silent Hill, MGS, Contra, etc. Without those, where would they be now?

You don't even need a MSX to play it officially. Konami released both MSX Metal Gear games in English as part of the MGS3: Snake Eater re-release called MGS3: Subsistence back in 2006 and again in the HD collection back in 2011. That and of course roms and emulators exist.

I don't know how hard it is to find either in Japan or Europe, but from a North American perspective there is no practical reason to import a used MSX2 for hundreds of dollars then spend hundreds of dollars on each game when you just buy a copy of Subsistence on PS2 or the HD collection on PS360 for around $20.

Its obvious konami saw the potential and shut it down to make their own paid version instead.

Probably just because Kojima is planning for a remake of Metal Gear (on the fox engine no less)

Is it just me, or do the animated sequences in the trailer look really terrible? Like they put minimal effort into it.

The PAL version was a pain in the ass to find in Australia but the HD Collection did include the PAL version of it as it also had European Extreme difficulty so the rarity of it lessened quite massively with both physical and digital copies of the HD Collection for MGS did actually include the MSX games.

That said, the MSX Metal Gear titles and Solid do really deserve newer remakes or at the very least have Twin Snakes given some touch-ups and re-released.

those were pretty much story boards that would have been replaced from what I heard.
