Recently I aquired a brand new copy of metroid for FDS and at first it worked fine but today it started it acting funny. There was a glitch where sometimes it would save with morph ball ability not working and the game registering with it already aquired and have to delete my save file and start all over again.

But today I started getting read error 01 twice today then when I loaded the game save file was gone after happening 2nd time. My question is is my copy of metroid corrupted or is it an issue with my FDS or a common glitch in the game? Cause after everything erased it seemed fine.

seems that your copy of the game is corrupted, probably it was lying in the sun at some point or near a magnetic source or whatever. Never experienced that problem.

Seems like you need to find some way to rewrite the disk.

I've never had the problem with my copy of Metroid on FDS. However I have had an Error 01 starting the game before, I doubt the copy is corrupted maybe the FDS head needs to be cleaned...

It might be the head it was dirty when I got it and cleaned it and worked fine but might need another good cleaning. I mean if the game was corrupted it wouldn't even function normal half the time would it? The thing is who would I send it to get it rewritten cause honestly I don't even have the technical know how on modding my fds, which I don't want to do at all, on top of using the special program that requires dos and a special parallel cable with a copier (it's as complicated as it sounds).

FDS disks are a modified format used in a lot of synthesizers. Once pirates realized this the market was flooded.

However such knowledge works both ways.

I can take an uneducated guess, but maybe a sector is corrupted so the rest of the game will still work as it should. As the copy of Metroid you bought was new, it sounds to me it's just the diskhead being dirty or something else is wrong with it... I really doubt it's the problem with the game.

If it comes to replacing the diskhead unit, they shouldn't be too much maybe around the $30 mark or so.
