I teach English. Not to kids, college level. It's as if I were teaching kids, though, as my students are quite irresponsible. I teach at a small university near my city, the Polytechnic University of Jalisco. Only place I could get a job with this economy. I applied to be a Spanish Writing or Research Methods student, but they saw my TOEFL score and were hellbent on making me an English teacher. I've taught Spanish as a Second Language to Japanese and American students, but never ESL.

I was hired as a Spanish Writing teacher by ITESM once, about 18 months ago (being best of my class when I graduated and all), but I have a very influential enemy iin high places who had me banned from ever being employed there, because of my political affiliation, and the fact that I'm neither rich nor white.
Thus, my group "did not have enough people" to open, and I was told this six days before the semester started. This cost me one whole semester of employment.

I had a half-scholarship half-credit for college. Now I owe them about 20,000 dollars. They offered me an extension on my debt if I signed up for graduate school, with a scholarship (Great offer, since I was unemployed and needed at least that degree to teach). This, of course, added to the chance of me teaching low-level classes that didn't need the Master's degree. I didn't know I was banned when I took the offer.
Now I'm half-employed, with no future from them, but still paying them for graduate school (haven't graduated yet), with a degree from them that will have no use to get work at their university because I'm banned.
    And in serious debt.
Also, february this year, I won a literature award from my local campus, and they still owe me the cash prize. What's 100 dollars to them? Nothing. Still, they never paid. I ask every week and the money hasn't been approved.

In short words: those FUCKERS at ITESM are elitist hypocritical thieves. I wish I had known so I could have gone elsewhere. "Harvard of Latin America" My fucking arse.

Xerdo, maybe you should go for the job? You sound qualified enough, plus you certainly know games.

The Atomix offer was some time ago, though. Or is it still valid? I'd like to apply, just for kicks.

Ahaha! I got to play the Wii today, local Gamestop got a display console, I played this racing game, Extreme something, either way, it was fun as hell, I had to hold the controller like a steering wheel and all. It takes a little getting used to but was sooooooooooo much fun, I love how Nintendo is so damn innovative. Sorry if you guys talked about this already, I am a little too sleepy to read all the above posts.

Sorry, is that with such a low wage I thought you were teaching kids or something.

Anyway, pricks like those you say are everywhere. Is really a shame that theres still some discrimination based on the color of your skin.

BTW, since you're getting a bad time over there, yet you're qualified and know english, why dont you make the jump to the states? You could make some good money teaching english to other mexicans, and spanish to americans:nod:

Dunno, since it seems you got nothing to loose...
