Hi there. Loooooong time lurker, 1st time poster. (I hope this post is in the right area.) Recently I came into possession of a Metal Gear Solid 4 variant. I am guessing it is a promo copy. I was wondering if anyone had info on it? As far as I have noticed thus far, the packaging looks nearly identical to the standard issue, save for a few differences. At the bottom of the spine, the part number differs, where the regular is BLUS 30109 and the promo reads BLUs 30109P. Also, on the back cover where the UPC would normally be, is a black box outlined in white, of white text reading: Not for Resale. Not for individual return or exchange. In order to accommodate the new box, the legal copy above is set differently. Finally, on the whole, the text is slightly less legible. It seems as if there is a red drop shadow, (or the magenta plate was slightly offset during the printing process.) The game is still sealed in the original shrinkwrap, so I do not know if there are further differnces on the inside printed materials, or if the game differs from the original release in any way. So, are promo versions of games sought after in any way? If so, what is the typical value markup? One thought occurred to me: could this be the same version shipped in the MGS4 special edition PS3 console boxsets? Thanks!
Could just be a regular promo copy that they send out to reviewers and stores. If so, then it's not that sought after, there's plenty of promo copies of the games on eBay selling for far less than their retail version.
I'm guessing because they don't include the manual. Also it could be because they're stuck in that strange middle ground of not being rare enough for collectors to bother with, yet being strange enough for your average eBay joe to avoid.
If it's a pressed copy for UK then it's worth maybe 1/2 of release. If it's on BRD it's worth a fuckload more.
BRD? Blu Ray Disc? I am looking at it right now, and the packaging has the official Blu Ray Disc logo on the back. By all accounts, it looks like the real deal retail, with the exceptions to the packaging I mentioned. Now, I do not know for sure what is on the inside past the fact that I can see a full manual in there due to the fact that it is still shrink wrapped.
It's not the game that was bundled in with the PS3 console is it? A few of my early Xbox games that were bundled with consoles had variations like that.
Yeah, I wondered the same. I googled around a bit and it looks like it could very well be that this actually is, or is very similar to the MGS4 that came in the 80GB MGS4 PS3 LE pack. I'll try to track one of those down to confirm. Sorry for the alarm.
It came with the 40gb special edition colored PS3 that konami sold. I got mine from walmart a while ago when they got extras online. It also comes with a blu ray movie and its stored in a special case. Nothing special.
I was under that impression as well.....as per a previous post elsewhere here But I got a promo copy (LBP) a few weeks ago....at first it wasn`t available on line......then some more updates and now I can......all very strange
